Parayko or bust. Send them Matheson and Mailloux

If the Habs want to trade Mike Matheson...they don't have to do it with any salary retention. He's already cheap for what he provides.

He's seriously undervalued by this fanbase.
Undervalued if you look at his DB page

My point has nothing to do with his DB page and all to do with his value as a minute eating, point producing Dman.

You're not a fan and that's your right, I just know there's not a ton of Dman who can do what he does (even if you think what he does isn't all that great) who are available and make less than 5M for this year and next.

That has value...value that you don't need to tie up a salary retention spot if you're desperate to move him.

A lot of D can do what he does, mainly because he doesn't do it well.

Gustaffsson is the perfect example.

Gustafsson is currently 5th on the Red Wings in TOI/g

At ES he's 7th

On the PP he's 1st

On the PK he's 7th

He does not do what Mike Matheson does.

That makes him a poor example exacerbated by the fact that the Detroit Red Wings would kill for a player like Mike Matheson.

Mike Matheson, mostly out of necessity granted, played the 3rd most minutes in the NHL last season out of all players in the NHL last year.

Erik Gustafsson has never nor will ever come close to approaching that.

Again it's fine that he's not your cup of tea but to suggest he's got similar value to what is essentially a PP specialist, is ridiculous.

20 game mark before we see movement?
Does bowel movement count? 💀

I doubt anything happens for two main reasons — timing is still early at 20 game mark and Hughes is only willing to trade assets that are not part of the future. So, who does that leave, one of the org’s many diminutive forwards?

That said, Hughes cannot be completely dismissed.

I love that you spelled it out for me.
Look at 18-19.

Kinda crazy we have like the worst veterans leader ive never seen gathered in one team
One player that has won.

One player that was anything more than a depth players and he's completely done and a known character case. Ridiculous how bad the vetetan core is and it's ridiculous that it's never been adressed.

This team needs veterans that have player key roles in winning team. Not just f***ing losers and depth players.

Last year, not tomorrow.
Fine, but why would Parayko waive his no trade clause? To play for worse team and get less money due to taxes? Maybe in 2 years it would a different story.

The first chance will for that to happen is this years trade deadline if Habs have a chance to make the playoffs. Until then the only players that are winners that would be available are 4th liners.

It's to be expected when the veterans MB collected weren't leaders or good players. Try again.

Come again?

Wait are you quoting me his career year 6-7 years ago which is a complete outlier to thr rest of his career, as proof that Erik Gustafsson can do what Matheson can't?

Just say you don't rate him man lol

Don’t you think that Matheson at 2.44m isn’t adding value?
Looking at all the teams salary cap, only 12 can take him at full salary, but at half that it’s 17 teams and 6 teams within a 1m in salary cap. It’s much easier to clear money with retention with affecting your core.

As long as Gallagher and Anderson are on the roster, I say trade Matheson and Savard for a bunch of 1sr , 2nd and prospects. Take a cap dump if you can.

It would take a hell of an overpayment and I don’t see why another team would want to do that.

You retain salary on guys you want to move, the Habs don't have to move Matheson.

Next year with 1yr left might be a different story or again depending on return on a retention deal.

The point is, a lot of players can produce DB numbers while being given free reign and fed top minutes. It doesn't mean they can do it great. Case in point, both Gus and Mothers milk.
