I don't know what the plans are, but with Demidov coming in next season, we'll have 4 offense oriented winger and only 1 established offense oriented center. I'm terrible at math and even I can see how the numbers don't quite add up there. We need a solid 2 C to take full advantage of the roster we have, plain and simple. Either it's a rejuvenated Dach or someone else, we need it or we'll be wasting everybody's time.
And picks to get such a move done. No excuses, KH needs to make such move. Dach and Newhook will complete a fantastic 3rd line. And it needs to be for an established center, not a maybe like the 2 trades he made in Dach and Newhook.

4m x 4 I actually run.
We need to see how good Owen Beck can be with NHL players before we decide on what to do with Evans.
I think we have far more important priorities than signing a player who is likely to be a redundant piece in the not too distant future.
If Laine remains healthy this season we HAVE to be working on an extension. That would be like our high end UFA splash.
No painting ourselves into corners with bad contracts for aging 4th liners thank you very much.
Exactly... bottom 6 need to filled with our depth from within at low aav. We don't need to drop $4m on a 4C.

I'm not on the Matheson whipping boy bandwagon like most of this board but he's having a rough game tonight against his former team.

ROR is way more valuable than DVO IMO, high hockey sense and cup winning experience... even got the leafs to win a round. Sissons is also cheap gritty playoffs type C along with RD Schenn.

But you're paying a 2nd and our last retention spot for guys that don't really fit the Habs timeline.

Maybe, but I'm arguing what use is a timeline when the players aren't in a safe place to grow.

Selke caliber C might help stabilize up front and by extension help some of the young guys learn to be better defensively/ getting out of their own zone smart. Sissons is gritty, good face-off guy that gets pummeled with dzone draws in Nashville. Adds another experienced player to help reduce the amount of times they skate around the dzone like chickens with no heads. Schenn adds another vet to a young d core, adds grit too which we rely too much on Xhekaj.

I'd pay a 2nd to have a better chance that Dach actually becomes a good player.

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
Laine - ROR - Dach
Anderson - Sissons - Gallagher
Heineman - Evans - Armia

I feel this lineup will be less likely to give up 9 goals lol

This is also a roster that greatly limit the opportunity for kids to push themselves into the lineup. Only Armia and potentially Evans' (who I would try to keep) spot (and 13th forward I guess) get freed next year and you have Demidov, Beck, Tuch, Kapanen and Roy that should be pushing hard to make the team.

If the team is spending assets, it should be on guys age 20-28 that will be there and still good when the window open.

We should have gotten 2 1st round picks for Kovacevic then.
I thought it would have been fun to trade Kovacevic at 50% retained last year.

He was making league min so a contender could have got him for like 375k cap hit for a full season, basically a free roster spot filled

He would change nothing, he’s a #6 Dmen

Most of our Ds play like #6 right now. lol I think he would change a lot of things. First of all cause he would not being caught on the ice cause he's on the wrong side, being a righty. That has been an issue. Secondly, he would bring a lot of stability and added physicality and size.

Kovacevic was one of the softest dman I've seen as a Hab. This "physicality and size" comment baffles me. I'm really happy for him to be killing it with the Devils, he seems like a great guy who works hard, but if the Devils give him top 4 dman money and term they will regret that big time.
