People in New York this weekend told me they'd never seen Jeff Gorton so angry." - Elliotte Friedman

Does this spark trade talks or what??
I believe he was angry about the refereeing. Maybe losing to the team that dumped him, also played a part. Not gonna change anything going forward, IMHO — Hughes keeps beating the same drum about staying the course.

Did I hear correctly on BPM from Laraque? Said that Friedman said Zegras to MTL is close? Not sure if I heard that properly lol
Georges got that from some guy who heard from some other guy who said he saw Friedman “in a restaurant”… turns out it was Nick Offerman …. oh well

Newhook OR Dach for Zegras would make sense…. But would it made Habs better ?

And if Anaheim is willing, they can also trade Luneau (RD) Or Warren (RD) OR Gaucher(big center) for Barron + Dvorak or Armia ???

I don't think I care if it makes Habs better

I'd trade something for Klim Kostin atm, and that would probably make us better, but do we care?

Friedman on 32 Thoughts that the belief was that Waddell didn't want to trade Jiricek in the Eastern Conference.

I've never quite understood this logic from NHL GM's about not wanting to trade a player to a team within the same division or conference as your team.

So you're potentially taking a lesser player or package back in return for your player because you don't want to play against your former player 3 or 4 times per season vs playing him twice by trading him to the other conference. Unless I'm missing something that's the only reason I could really see for not wanting to trade within your own division or conference.

GM's would help their team much more by taking back the best return possible regardless of what division or conference you traded your player to and if that deal is with a team in your division or conference then so be it.

Maybe in this case though the Wild did have the best offer on the table for Jiricek but who really knows but you're not really helping yourself by eliminating half of the NHL teams when trying to make a deal either.

I can see when all things being equal, you'd rather not face that player multiple times a year when he wants nothing more then to scorch his former club, particularly against a fierce rival, think Habs, Leafs, Bruins, Sens.

If the offer is significantly better than anything out there from the rival team, and I think I'm getting the best deal and "winning" the trade, or it's fairly insignificant assets being traded, then I'd have no problem with it.

Is Zegras not considered a C anymore? I would be down for a Dach for Zegras swap.
I think he plays wing in Anaheim because of the over-abundance of center candidates. In any case, he'd just replace Dach's lack of involvement like a glove at an increased cap hit. I'd still do that swap, but it would be more for Dach and Zegras than for either trading teams.

which is why they should be swapping Primeau for Dobes and making a trade for a RD and a C at the same time.

Swap the Gs
Trade Barron + Picks for a decent C
Acquire a defensive RD from the surplus of assets
=
stabilize the team without accelerating too fast and they can trade Savard later if needed when the TDL comes
Nobody wants Barron, only Crosby wants him.

Zegras sucks. Let's do better. I rather keep Dach and give him another chance next season.

He is a 2nd line centre at worst.
Nope. Maybe on a crappy team that will never win. Is that what we wanna be?

How do you know Zegras sucks? Have you watched him play? Habs probably need a more physical 2c but Zegras can put up points.

It’s not the GMs, it’s owners. Pegula made it clear to both his GMs he wanted ROR & Eichel out of the conference “at all costs”.

Out of sight, only playing them a reduced # of GP helps save face
