I'm probably one of Mike Matheson's biggest detractors during the season. He does too much needless stuff that infuriates me.
I'd be surprised if there is a trade out there to be had that can allow us to part ways this season.
He's a top 4 guy but he needs the right playing partner and he needs to be kept on a leash and not constantly given the green light like we do in Montreal.
His very best games as a Hab had him playing a simple game while he was tasked with keeping pace along with Kaiden Guhle against teams like Vegas and Colorado. I expect there will be more accountability this season to go along with the higher aspirations it may affect his output some.
I'm getting the impression that some believe Lane Hutson has already displaced him? :dunno:

Backup goalies are getting traded for late 1st round picks without even an extension in place.

Interesting

I mean, Boston went with a tandem leaning heavily on both guys. Ullmark is probably a top 10-12 goalie in hockey. I would have assumed Boston would get more for him, pending FA or not.

Ullmark isn't really a backup goalie, more like a solid 1B goaltender and can be a starter for a lot of teams.

Ylonen is playing on the second line in the AHL, for a contender club. Teams have dime and dozens tweener like him in the AHL.
Yeah, i fear you're right... i wish him to take that next step but i have a feel of Andrigheto. Border but not enough for a full time position in a good team.

That's why I'd wrap him in a deal somehow. The 1st is the prize, Ylonen is an nhl tested borderline young dude to fill in injuries and provide rest.

But yeah, it'd cost Beck and we're not going there. I can see Beck in the core in 2 years....

Debatable…unless the Sens shore up their defense and overall team commitment to playing defense

Don't expect Ullmark to be all that different than Korpisalo.

I don’t think people understand how solid the Bruins team system is and how the completely opposite the Sens team system is.

Maybe new coach and changes will help, otherwise, its deck chairs on the Titanic.

Nothing against Ullmark, i’m just going to assume the Sens are going to completely change the way they've played because while Ullmarknis solid, he's not single-handedly changing their fortunes.

I don't think the Caps are done. I can see them making more moves now. This is their move all in time now that they added Dubois.

Would Matheson, Savard, Jets 1st, get you Leonard? Caps are a bit tight on the cap now but we can take a 1 year cap dumb or retain 50% on Matheson. Matheson and Savard would fit nice with Carlson and Sandin in their top 4D.

Or do they think Leonard is ready now to start NHL and fills a top 9F role?
Yes please I am 100% on board with getting Leonard. Value wise that's probably fair and I would jump on that if I was MTL, but I doubt caps would do that.

This is why i would rather overpay for a need at this moment.

Use mid picks to get rid of some contracts .

The goal is to progress you are 100% correct.

Let's see where we are right now( future and now)

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
???-Dach*-??? (* If the kid can stay healthy.)
Newhook-???-Roy ( I think Roy can start on the third to see where hes at)
RHP-Evans-??? Need to find a better 4th line player

Need to get rid of
Armia Dvorak Anderson Gallagher, use mid picks to make some spot or use the last retain on 1 of them.

Guhle - ????
???-???
Xhekaj-Harris
Savard and Matheson can be traded for assets.
Habs gotta focus on Mailloux Struble Reinbacher and Hutson to fill those empty spots overtime.

Our 5th OA needs to be a future top 6 player.

You insert a kid progressively during the season . Don't rush things but keep staying competitive.

By the end of the season half of this team could be brand new. This year is really important for the future.
Armia and Dvorak have value.

I really liked Armia last season when he woke up. If we have That Armia we have a solid player in the lineup at a pretty all right contract ending after this season. Best would be to trade him a TDL.

Ullmark was crap in the playoffs. Overpayment by Ottawa.

Ullmark is overrated. Not a huge fan of his game.

That Armia show up 10 games a year and disappear for 60 games. It's been like that for 5 years
Yeah, that was infuriating to say the least... still, given he has a chance to be traded to a contender team if he plays well, it would be great if he gives his best this year and we can get something good for a rental that instantly upgrades your 4th line. That is, if he plays like he can...

And yeah, i want him gone, but i'd rather get a 2nd than pay a 2nd...

Nice …

You mention that our young D could possibly bust, not progress and this spells danger as they are not progressing ….. yet, you are ready to trade Matheson for a pick that’s also not a proven player and could potentially bust, especially in that 10-15 range.

Matheson will need to be moved, sure, but not for a pick. Move a proven player for a ….proven player.
Matheson put 60 points but fans talk as he was garbage because he makes a lot of turnovers. It's just a normal considering his big ice time and that he was nearly alone to be able to transport the puck.

I didn't take the time to make a search about the legitimacy of this quote, but if it's true, a lot of fans are going to be ashamed of how they are treating Matheson .

" the 7 players who committed the most turnovers last year; David Patrnak, Evgeni Malkin, Leon Draisaitl, Artemi Panarin, Erik Karlsson, Nikita Kucherov, Mitch Marner. "
