I want a player we need for long term that is already good. Not another Newhook type of player. we need a good winger if not just wait and unload our bad contracts with mid picks

Matheson is a good option for a big trade to a team in need who are in playoff windows already
Still early to say what Newhook could become. As for a player who’s already good, I just don’t see them giving up what another team would want. Like I said, moving Matheson this year might fill a need in the top 6, but they don’t have the current players to fill the hole on D. Not this season at least. No one is stepping up and playing 26 minutes a night and putting up 60 plus points. Not Hutson, not Mailloux and not Guhle. Not this year at least.

The year is irrelevant.

The context is the issue. Sens owner, who just bought the team, being a lifelong Habs fan and then trading away a fan favorite like Tkachuk to that team??

Less than zero chance of that happening. PR & business nightmare.

Even the dreaded enemy of the Canadiens, the Quebec Nordiques almost got Patrick Roy. Serge Savard wanted to trade him there for Owen Nolan but it felt through. Nords-Habs was by far more hostile than Habs-Sens.

With the right offer, anything can happen. Just have to give them the player(s) they want.

So if we’re to believe Basu, the Ducks want Reinbacher, as they believe he’s a premier player in return for Zegras.

BUT, our own fandom thinks Reinbacher is not a premier prospect (MAYBE a 4th D, write some here).

Cherchez l’erreur.

Voici l'erreur: I don't think Zegras is a premier player neither.

Might as well roll the dice on the more long-term project D, which I have no strong opinion on his ceiling.

Michkov was the obvious pick, though. I'll die on that hill, and will mea culpa if I turn out to be wrong.

I might be in the minority but I’d give Guentzel or Reinhart 7x9,5M. Sure it’s a big salary to give, but if you’re going to give 7,5M to Necas, it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. They’re not going to cost you big assets (Guhle most likely is the ask from Carolina) which is a plus. By trading Guhle you’re going to have a problem on D. The 2M cost in savings by going Necas route is costing you Guhle which is big.

We have over 4M in retention coming off the book next year (Petry, Allen). It’s Dvorak, Armia and Evans last season with us and they can be replaced by cheaper options.

The cap is also going up
I don’t have any issue with the AAV but giving a 28/29yo a 7 years deal is paying for what he did for other team not what he will bring to your team…In the vast majority of cases a FW prime is 26-28. We aren’t in The situation where we are one player away and are these guy the missing piece, they are the best available players but that money is probably better spent next year, they be a improvement but when we are going to be a contender they will be starting the decline and taking cap space needed for core player… The cap is going up but the cap is based on revenue it isn’t going to jump up that much the vast majority of the money come from TV deal TVA sport barely keeping the light on and Bally sport I think have already filled for bankruptcy the NHL are not going to break the bank with the next deal.

Anaheim has this great rep as great draft masters. If they like Reinbacher, it should mean something to even the most obtuse posters here.

But hey, to each his own.

I'd sign Patty Kane any day. He'd be like Kovalchuk here, I think. Loves the big lights and always has.

A lot of posters are turning their nose up at a lot of players that are way more talented than a lot of guys we have now for petty reasons. Beggars can't be choosers, fellas.

It boggles my mind seeing people dismiss Patrick Kane. He would be either our best forward our 2nd best after Suzuki.

We need a players like him but for some poster he’s expendable because he’s too “old”. He was almost PPG last season but supposedly we don’t need him.

I can’t wait to watch some more of Dumb Donkey and “Atta Boy” Gally play some hockey for us.

I think Verbeek may be smoking crack asking for a top 5 pick one year removed or Guhle for a soft as baby sh** one dimensional forward coming off a terrible year.

You'll never get Reinhart for 9.5m. after season he's had he's going to hit jackpot. Guentzel is 30 years and a buck 80. That contract going to kill team when they contender. Necas I see near zero chance Carolina trades with us.

If trade comes to Montreal most likely be Colombus. A lot of probability in a switch of first picks. Jackets likely leaning defense. They know we taking forward, can pick up good asset and still get guy Waddell wants. It could morph into blockbuster with Johnson coming to Montreal and big contracts involved

Could it be that Verbeek wants a top defensive player in exchange for Zegras because he's planning on drafting a forward?
I think they're planning on taking a D but Ghule or Reinbacher excelerates that. Silayev can't step on NA ice for another three years.

That being said, Verbeek can take a hike

My feeling is we will go after Kakko!
I also think they will salvage Anderson's situation this year as they did with Armia but they will send him away before trade deadline.

They will draft one of Linstrum or Iginla. Which gives us a very Nice top 9.

Caufield, Suzuki, Slaf
Lindstrum, Dach, Roy
Kakko, Newhook, Armia

Lindstrom & Iginla will both be going back to junior this year. Armia will be gone next year.

and of course the downside is that he doesnt and his contract sinks them for another bunch of years......
2 years.

Here is my proposal to mitigate risk.

Columbus retains no salary.

They take back Dvorak 1 year 4.45M

We flip 2024 4th and 5th OA.

They can choose between Kidney and Trudeau, and we throw in a 3rd rounder.
