Not a huge fan of Zegras...but if Anaheim ask for Guhle...again....what do you pick?

Zegras-Dickinson?
Iginla-Guhle?

I guess it depends on if that's the deal (if its in the deal then Ducks may be asking for (a lot) more) and when the Habs want to be competitive.

Guhle is a big loss and isn't easily replaced, but this is a good draft to add a D. It will just be at least a few years until they'd be ready contribute, so you have to believe in the guys still on the team making a big jump.

I like betting on talent as part of a rebuild, but I don't think Zegras is ever going to be trustworthy defensively and I don't think he's the kind of player you build a contender around. If its close to one for one then I'd consider it though, but I care less about seeing immediate improvement.

The 2 first targets won’t happen

In the case of Tkachuk:

In the case of Jack Quinn:

It could be a Dach-type situation. Just have to be smart about it.

I might be in the minority but I’d give Guentzel or Reinhart 7x9,5M. Sure it’s a big salary to give, but if you’re going to give 7,5M to Necas, it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. They’re not going to cost you big assets (Guhle most likely is the ask from Carolina) which is a plus. By trading Guhle you’re going to have a problem on D. The 2M cost in savings by going Necas route is costing you Guhle which is big.

We have over 4M in retention coming off the book next year (Petry, Allen). It’s Dvorak, Armia and Evans last season with us and they can be replaced by cheaper options.

The cap is also going up

I would be very worried about signing Reinhart, it feels like quite a few players have production boosts while playing for Florida. I'd be very concerned he'd return to his 20g 60p type seasons which is still a good a valuable player, but at 9.5m that's a very steep price.

And to be honest not sure 9.5m from us is enough to actually get either of them.

Reinhart won’t sign at that price with MTL

Why would Montreal want Johnson specifically? He spent most of the year in the AHL or on the 4th line in Columbus, he didn't produce when he got chances up the lineup and finished the season on IR after having shoulder surgery. I would think Columbus would absolutely trade him for a fair package.

***Responded to wrong quote.
Teams don’t sell players , young players just drafted for nothing, low value

This is not 1985. Teams don't care about that now.

The year is irrelevant.

The context is the issue. Sens owner, who just bought the team, being a lifelong Habs fan and then trading away a fan favorite like Tkachuk to that team??

Less than zero chance of that happening. PR & business nightmare.

Not surprise by the ask but we shouldn’t do it
Don't worry...

I think it's safe to get there's zero chance KH would make either of those swaps.

I'm 💯 in favor of pursuing Zegras, and not surprised that the ask starts at that, but it's an easy no. I doubt PV finds any partner willing to do that kind of deal for Zegras, but if some team is, it won't be the Habs imo.
