Trade Savard for the right price, sure, but that'll make it harder for the Habs to make the playoffs in 2025. I suspect that another season of losing would be quite damaging to the youth corps.

As for Allen, if a team is demanding retention, then the cost should be a 1st+.
I’m starting to wonder if HuGo throw a boatload of $$ at Stamkos this summer on a 1-2 year heavy bonus deal

A first is enough or a very small add.

Pittsburgh is a prime candidate - they'll likely miss the play-offs, be picking in that mid 1st round and need draft capital to restock their cupboards or use for trade chips. Washington is another in the same situation but may sell at the deadline and may be picking too high for us to make that big of a leap.

Do you like the idea of getting Kakko?

I believe Allen will be traded to either NJ or Colorado, I'm honestly expecting to be NJ, Vanacek was awful yesterday. Also MTL had 2 scouts yesterday to either watch Holtz or maybe Bastian as a cap dump.

It would something like this:

Allen(rentention?) for Bastian + 2nd 2025

Allen + Harris for Batian and Holtz

I'd go the extra mile on our offer and try to pry Mercer out of them somehow. I could see him do really well in MSL's system.

Meier is clearly not liked by the coach Ruff he does not play on the Hughes line he does not play on the Hischier line he gets Haula as his center and he plays on the second pp unit not good for a guy making 8.8 million.
Meier's most used linemates at 5v5 from most to least this season:
Dawson Mercer (239 minutes)
Michael McLeod
Jack Hughes (128 minutes)
Tyler Toffoli
Nico Hischier
Alexander Holtz
Ondrej Palat
Jesper Bratt (55 minutes)
Erik Haula (40 minutes)
...

on the power play:
Jesper Bratt (46:04 minutes)
Tyler Toffoli
Ondrej Palat
Nico Hischier
Dawson Mercer (25 minutes)
Jack Hughes (15 minutes)
...

Maybe it's that Meier is not worth $8.8m... ;)

Oh yeah, it'd be a no brainer for me.. especially if its 2026.. that Tampa Bay team is ready for a collapse any year now.

True. By 2026, that 1st could be a good pick. Possibly a non-playoff pick. But then again, Tampa is a very desired destination for UFAs to begin with, and with the cap going up, they might be able to attract the kind of players that keep them competitive for a little longer.

I would be happy with that. 2 years deal.

Or Crosby the year after.

I know it's unpopular opinion in here but i think the young veterans need help and start learning to win more games.

With our pick this summer and with the fact that Slafkovsky is not that big ???? anymore, i think we can start thinking about adding corner pieces outside for from the draft.

Another piece i keep my eye on since a couple of years that i think would be the perfect piece to complete and mentor Reinbacher and Mailloux on the right side of our D is Rasmus Andersson. LOVE his profile. Big body, solid two ways and can log a lot of minutes. Still only 27 yo and realy durable. Friendly contract for 2 more years. Might be though to get him but if Calgary chooses to rebuild, we might have a shot at him.

Would KH take a shot on this guy
As a FA, I'd think about it. He would be a great veteran scorer for Suzuki or Dach to play with, he could potentially elevate them even further. He knows how to win and how to play with talented linemates. Having Toffoli around did help our young centers a lot.

Anyone saying no to bringing in either veteran especially Crosby I don't have much time for them. I don't see him leaving Pittsburgh but yes I'd definitely throw 3 or 4 years at him after next season to bring him in!

The Pens need to rebuild, and they will likely deal Crosby at the deadline next year, and then he is a UFA............The habs would be a great spot to finish out his career!!

What kind of bonus would that be?
I believe this season Stamkos has an $8.5M AAV and his actual payout is $5.5M bonus & $1M salary.

To entice to a nut job market like Mtl, probably looking at $9M AAV of which $8M is bonus & $1M salary

I bring Stamkos up because he’s apparently very close to MSL, so if there ever was a chance …

IMO there’s zero chance of that happening, Crosby will retire a Penguin, but word is Dubas will not deal his 1st rounder, they’re looking to retool on the fly

Crosby is the face of the Pens, the market will immediately go under if he’s dealt ..watch they’ll land Gavin McKenna in 2026

Lemieux in 1984, Crosby in 2005, and McKenna in 2026…:thumbd:

Mercer could be really costly, they would need someone that could step in right now to help them make the playoff, like Slaf or Caufield.

No
They're not going to touch Kakko

Gorton was able to do a do-over with that particular selection in trying it again with Slaf
Who is already better, bigger, and 3 years younger

With who they are targeting in the draft this year, and with ammunition for a trade to grab someone much better than trying to 'reclamation project' again
There's just no chance they take a stab at something that doesn't look more like a 'sure-thing' at this juncture of the rebuild

Having said all of this tho, I have this awful feeling they are looking at Zegras hard , which COULD work, sure.. but it could blow up in our faces too..

I mentioned Stammer a month or so ago and absolutely I'd look to bring him in. We could even do a deal similar to Money where we tell him if the season isn't going according to plan aka a playoff push, we move him. He's a gritty veteran who still produces and leads by example. Fully on board with a short term deal if there's no potential younger player trade.

Slafy - Suzy - Cole
Stammer - Dach - Newhook
