We are already stuck with Gally 6.5m x4 years, I exchange that any day of the week for Campbell 5millonsx4 buried in the minors. Foegele is just as effective until trade deadline and our youngsters will need rosters spot at some point.

2 birds one stone really.

Add someone like Harris/Kovac and I believe we could get a 2024 protected first on top of it.
I would do that too without any hesitation, though the Oilers can't fit those two under the cap in exchange for Campbell and Foegle without retention and I would not use our last spot there. It would need a 3rd team.

It wasn't too long ago we were saying Gally's contract was one of the worst in the entire NHL.

Let's not be blinded by short term success. He will slow down even more and there's no guarantee we can really LTIR him. His contract will ge bought out in 2 or 3 years otherwise. He has a NMC, can't even be demoted or waived, needs to be protected in a hypothetical expansion, his dollar salary and cap make him untradable. So much negative.

Campbell's contract is less costly to buy out in 2-3 years. We need a veteran back-up in the AHL. He could become tradable again too, especially with retention when we regain our spots.

Allen has two more years, Foegle only one. Can be traded at the deadline, not a bad forward either, better than Armia.

On top of my first post, I'll add that many people don't understand how bad half of our top 6 is. RHP, Gally, Pearson, Anderson, Slaf, and Newhook are not long-term solutions. If Newhook and Slaf top out as a third line because our top 6 is too deep, that makes our team stronger, not weaker. It gives Slaf the chance to play against weaker D and develop his game slowly.

Even If Huberdeau, as an example, skates on the third at ES and plays PP1 and puts up 2 points a game, who cares that he doesn't play with Suzuki or Caufield? Monahan is second on the team in points from the third line. He's carrying two corpses to respectable numbers. He gets his extra minutes from doubleshifts, OT and special teams.

Roy is the only top 6 prospect coming up any time soon and he wouldn't be hurt by a couple years in the AHL/3rd line. Does anyone realistically think we're getting Draisatl or McDavid? Does anyone think Marner, Rantanen, Chrychun, Hedman or Boeser will actually hit the market in 2025? We have a lot of depth prospects but we don't have anyone projecting to be a top line player. We also don't have enough desirable assets to trade for a guy that isn't out of favour with their organization. Like would anyone trade Guhle for Boldy or something along those lines? Do we think anyone else has Guhle's upside as a #1D in our organization?

Or would everyone just prefer we sign Toffoli to another 3-4 year deal this summer?
If Monahan is gone at the tdl and Dach would be healthy we have 3 top 6 players. So true we need more than 1 player

Campbell
Foegele

Gallagher
Allen

EDM a real goalie while ditching Campbell and Gally bring a veteran presence in the room/Foegele spot while salary balances without any retention.

MTL solves the menage à trois situation, bury him in the AHL and gets Gally contract out of the way for some kid next 4 years.

Add some picks/prospects to even out and its a clear cut win-win imho
EDM doesn't have the cap space to make that trade.
MTL would have to take another player back (likely Ceci) to make it work.

And Campbell has a NTC. Habs could always pick him up on waivers, but that might be a bit shady.

That would be very costly for EDM though. Not sure they're willing to pay the price.

Good thing we have more cap space than we need right now. Anything to get Gallagher off the books... His roster spot belongs to our prospects.

I also want Allen gone so we can let Primeau show what he has this year. Its now or never.

I'd take a cap dump like Ceci and a first ilto even things out... would also gladly add Harris to the mix.

We also need to trade Pearson ASAP so the young guys can get more ice time, and ice time with Monahan.

Edmonton wants to decrease their cap hits, short term and long term, not increase them.

Two years ago, EDM could have drafted Wallstedt who is the goalkeeper in his D year who has impressed me the most in years. They chose to give up that pick for a 3rd. Let s see if it pays off.

Yes, we can take on Ceci too, no problem. In part because MTL would take in less cap hit this year than EDM even with Ceci included.
But taking Ceci on for 2 years will cost them.

Taking on Foegele will cost them a bit.
Giving up Allen will cost them.
And making the Gally/Campbell swap will cost them.
And if MTL gives up a D to replace Ceci, that will cost them too.

It's a nice trade in theory but i'm just not sure EDM is willing to pay for all that.
Maybe if MTL retains 50% on Allen and EDM can gain around 1.7M of cap space in the process, that'd make more sense for them.
That would enable them to accrue enough cap space to add some pieces at the deadline.
But again, that'll cost more.

Dreger on 690 said Habs interest in Bourgault. Hughes must see where He lite up the Q but have to take that with grain of salt. Bourgault done little in AHL. A .5 point a game player, 16 penalty minutes, sounds like soft player.

We have enough middle of the road forward prospects who can't produce in the AHL.

I would love too see some sort of Gallagher Allen for Campbell swap. We would need another cap dump coming back and a draft pick. Campbell may be the answer for a starter in Laval.

It's the right call.

Just because there's a delayed penalty doesn't mean you can take away a scoring chance.

It's clearly goaltender interference

Draisaitl would be an offseason move if he does want out, and I'm not really sure what we can offer.
If Drai gets out McD might wanna leave too. Meaning EDM would have failed and probably rebuild from head to toe. I wonder what would be the asking price...

We have a boatload of picks and prospects for a quantity for quality type of trade.

2 first round pick
More picks
Young nhl ready top foward
Young nhl ready top D

Is that a fair asking price?

Dach
Guhle
2024 and 2025 firsts
Add couple of second for good mesures

Mcdavid

Daydreaming, i know. But stiĺl fun :)

EDM probably ends up better with this trade and we'd still be needing wingers to play with McDavid.

Our D, however, would likely still be good without Guhle.

What's the point of Edmonton rebuilding? They have two of the best players in the sport on their team! They're going to ride or die with them.

MTL has to trade for Cozens or Thompson : as soon as BUF tardes a top center to a team they win the stanley cup. Small sample but worth a shot ;)
