Columbus are still retooling, trading for an UFA wouldn't make sense for them. I would guess they're looking for a early-mid 20's forward locked up for a while. Granted they did go all in on free agents this summer and are trying to compete. I don't see how their D factor into our situation though, since we already lack spots. Boqvist is kind of what we're trying to get out of Norlinder and Barron so he would be a good buy low candidate. But if we trade for Boqvist we have to have something for a Barron trade lined up.
Theyre using Laine at center. Enough said.

MTL could really use the Garland situation to their advantage I think. Lets say VANs goal is to save cash and maybe acquire a young D, how about Barron for Garland, a 2024 first and a second. Then flip Garland, whos still a solid player who could fit in a contenders top 9, to WAS for Mantha (pure capdump) and a 2024 first. Then MTL would have transformed Barron and taking on one year of Mantha into two first and a second.

That sounds great, but Vancouver could deal Garland to Washington for a 2024 first themselves. They might need help from us to take Mantha, and to move Barron to them, but I think we will get just Washington's first for that, not both team's firsts.

Boqvist would be great but there's no point really.. Mailloux and Hutson are coming.
Get him, feed him top pp minutes and hope he's healthy and the Habs pp is a bit better. See if he gets 40, or 50 points and deal him for increased assets ?

I can't imagine he would cost that much. Possibly Colorado's 2nd and Lindstrom as a contract going back for the Habs?

To be fair we said the same about a bunch of guys and Beaulieu/Tinordi. If they can't beat Boqvist for a spot they're probably not NHLers cause he's really a bottom pairing + PP guy.

I don't see a need for Boqvist. Barron and Mailloux are younger, fit the timeline better, and are developing fine. Unless you move one of them, it won't make sense. And judging from playstyles, Mailloux probably moves out since him and Boqvist are similar type players

I mean it depends on the price really. Taking a chance on young RHD with potential that are under 25 is worth it unless you’re getting bent over to acquire them. Just look at how we acquired Petry in 2015. He was a little older but same idea.

CBJ isnt rebuilding. Their assets are primed now. Laine, Gaudreau, Werenski, Fantilli, Sillinger, Jenner, Texier, Marchenko, Roslovic, Provorov, Severson Nd Merzlinkis are all primed.
Fantilli is primed?!?! Sillinger and Marchenko are still very young too and not in their prime. I really doubt Columbus is interested in rentals.

Well, the other first basically is for Barron

Well, the other first basically is for Barron
So its basically Barron for a first, Garland and a second for nothing (because high cap hit). Then Mantha and a first for Garland (the difference in quality between both players)

Is MSL supposed to shelter half the roster to have them flipped at the deadline while sheltering the other half of the roster for development?

When Dvorak gets back, if he plays well in his first ~15-20 games I'd push hard for a deal with the Hawks.

They need to give Bedard some help to ease the misery of the next 2-3 seasons. Dvo is a solid middle 6 option that could alleviate a bit of the weight without pushing them out of bottom feeder territory... plus he's a local product.

They've got 13 1st & 2nd round picks the next 3 seasons and ample cap space.

Something like a '24 2nd & conditional '25 pick (2nd if Dvo plays 60+ games in '24-'25, 3rd if he doesn't).
