Can't see habs getting a 1st for petry
I dunno, Petry is still a very good defenseman in the league, and Petry at 50% more retained down to 2.3 million? That’s worth a ton to a contender looking for cheap and talented depth. And if the Habs were to take back some salary (on an expiring contract)? It’s certainly possible.

Maybe that’ll be the one time that Hughes retains on a multi year contract but I’ll only believe it when I see it.

I think I was the most optimistic thinking we could probably land a 6th round pick for The Hoff. Most people thought he couldn’t even be traded for future considerations.

Receiving a 2nd round pick + a very capable Jeff Petry + no freaking retention to The Hoff is a god damn miracle.

Arizona wouldn't trade Crouse unless you overpay but he is basically a better version of Andersson in every way, He would make Andersson instantly redundant. Crouse is a LW though and I don't know how good he is on his offwing.

I don’t think he is.

Also it doesn’t make sense. Petry didn’t go to SJ because of the NTC. Why would he go to Anaheim?

I thought he said he wants to stay on the East Coast to be close to his family. I assumed his 15 team No Trade list included the 15 most western teams.
He might lift his clause if Hughes tells him you either go to X city or you play in Montreal.

Nucks fan asking around. Would a trade of getting Conor Garland for Armia and a 2nd (wouldnt matter whose, if you have several) intrigue you?
I feel like the 2nd is a bit high. Garland is a neutral or even negative asset apparently. Don't hate him but he's more of the same as far as what's in the organization (diminutive forward with skill; Caufield, Farrell, RHP)

I counter with Allen for Garland as a basis instead, I know Martin did decent at some points but seems like your team could use Allen.

The extra year on garland makes his contract more of an anchor than Armia. Burying Armia in the AHL only leaves you with two million in dead cap. He is also still a serviceable fourth liner who can fill on the third. Garland can't crack it in the top six but isn't good enough without the puck to be in a bottom six role. The pick is going to the wrong team.

LW depth is already Caufield, Newhook, Slafkovksy and on the RW you have Gallagher hogging a spot. Since the Habs seem to have a lot of centers who are better when play on the wing so once Dvorak is traded/leaves their would be more room.

Lawson Crouse did do most of his damage last year on the Coyotes 3rd/4th line so I guess it could work though I think people would object to his position in the lineup and his contract.:dunno:

If we traded for Crouse two years ago while he had 13 points … how many here would’ve complained Bergevin got another grinder…

« Newhook is a 30 point player until he proves more »

This is why I like Hughes and Gorton they actually take gambles and not just seeing the grass greener on every other team.

Would be nice if every player would be a blue chip prospect PPG at 22 and proven NHL assets that you can get in exchange for mix and match « undesirable » packages. But that’s not how it works han

For all the high end « scouts » here why you wouldn’t you want him before he hits 20 goals ? Isn’t what scouting is about no ?

Nope.. the Habs would only get smaller up front if that person was a Gaudreau level talent. Garland would be a non-starter for the vision of the team.

Nope.

Habs still need to build the pipeline. Garland is another small forward. He also has 3 years left at almost 5 mill, Armia has 2 years left at 1.5 less.

Garland is a much better offensive player, but if there's a deal there the 2nd is on the wrong side, so the Habs easily pass.

Not in the slightest. And I like Garland as a player, but Montreal already has an older version in Gallagher locked up long term and a potentially younger version in RHP under team control.

Montreal just doesn't have the need for a Garland (part of the reason Hoffman was traded). I'd probably do Garland for Armia straight up if Vancouver wants the cap space, but outside of that I'd rather the cap space.

Not to mention they already have RHP on the roster too. Habs have enough of that type of player.
