Howard is way more talented. We need talent not bottom 6 guys

We don't need more Smurfs with talent that turn into Pitlick. I know what you are saying but the type of talent we need are the top end ones. Not guys like Howard. Caufield, Farrell, Mesar, Kidney is good. The talent we need to surround them with is not someone like Howard bud.

Bringing in pieces that can turn the needle in the bottom 6 should not be ignored. Does Lars Eller have talent? Coyle? Lets not ignore the bottom 6

What about last year's deadline? The guys moved were all Bergevin assets. Do we really think we can get returns like that every deadline? Bergevin had flaws but come on man. We got very good returns from Toffoli, Lehkonen, Chiarot, and Kulak.

We also moved a lot of our trade chips last deadline too. Fans thinking we can do that every year are off the rails.

Just because MB didn't have a 100% failure rate doesn't mean this roster/cap isn't being hurt by his decisions. It's not mutually exclusive.

We have Bergevin to thank for stacking out team with undesirables.

Anderson, Savard, and Matheson are wanted.

Eddie and Monahan will be next TDL if healthy.

Dvo and Allen probably wanted at bargain prices.

We're stuck with Gallagher, Armia, Hoffman, and maybe Drouin.

We have that in the system already.

If Benson is on the board when we draft you don’t take him because he is a ‘’smurf’’ ?

Like. Do we even play in this league?
Montreal has one done one legit trade so far. You can't say the same of Calgary (zero movement), Anaheim (trading signing rights and an AHL swap), Philly (one AHL trade) and Kraken (nothing in Feb).

Other teams with a single deadline related trade: Winnipeg, NJD, Dallas...

At least NJD got Meier, but Winnipeg/Dallas fans must be o_O.

Who we draft in the top 10 vs who we are willing to take in a Edmundson trade are two different things. Not all smurfs are created equal.

You're not getting a smurf with high end talent in the Edmundson trade. Understand the difference?

Those last 4 at the bulk of the salary, which is the problem. Again Bergevin.

We got unlucky that Eddie and Monahan got injured. But the sky isn't falling.
Was it really bad luck? Or Geoff’s buddy trainers and medical staff having been gifted a job for life with no expert oversight nor apparent accountability? Let their summer evaluation establish if it was all due to bad luck.

I’m more concerned about seeing those with the long term deals get cleared than Drouin. Not because we need the cap room but because they do not fit the mold of the type of team Hughes claimed he wanted to build. I’d be happy if Hughes managed to clear just one of Armia or Hoffman this deadline.

Although, there would be a large degree of satisfaction not having to contend with Drouin anymore even if he’s been putting up points lately.

So do I.....but I do want the cap room, it has become a great tool lately to get some assets almost free.
We're already set up to have tons of cap space next summer, but the more the better.

Your post makes no sense.

So you buy a cabin and there's a huge bucket full of shit in it. Your family asks you to try to sell the bucket of shit. You can't find a buyer because nobody wants your bucket of shit. You then have to let the bucket of shit go for nothing. Should your family be outraged because you couldn't get anything for the bucket of shit?
I LOL ... the culture of today is mock outrage about trivial sh1t transformed to real outrage at trivial sh1t. There is some odd belief that if you act outraged all the time that you are a serious thinker who has valid opinions that everyone should adhere to. It is virtue signalling gone wild. I hope that this is a temporary cultural trend, but I don't have much faith.

Why ppl don't understand that players like Drouin are on expiring contracts, and if we got anything for them it would be a bonus.

Drouin will probably be moved at the last minute. Hughes will probably only move him if he can't find a better use for the retention spot. And of course he might be a last resort for the acquirer.

God trading Anderson would be so big if the rumoured deals are big.

1. GMs are overpaying like crazy. If we can get an overpayment, I don't see how you turn it down.
2. That's a lot of cap space wiggle room for future years. I know we'd have to take something back, at least for this year, but that doesn't matter.
3. I don't expect to see a Trade Deadline this crazy again anytime soon - so teams won't be panicking to get that one last player in future years quite as bad.

I don't expect there to be a market for Drouin.
Dvorak's value is probably too low right now to get a good return without retention.
Armia obviously has no interest whatsoever.
Edmundson may be dealt, but the return won't be huge.
I'm not sure what the return on Savard would be, but I'd be fine moving him. Honestly our rookies are so solid on the backend that I'm not even worried.
And finally, Hoffman just isn't a player teams want with the extra year. He'll be moveable next year, as long as he has a similar season offensively.
