Kucherov-Big contract long term
Stamkos-Big contract long term
Cirelli-Big contract long term
Point-Big contract long term
Sergachev-Big contract long term
Hedman-Big contract long term
Vasilevski-Big contract long term

Guess we can have as many as them ;)
Do you notice they drafted almost all those guys, except Sergachev who they acquired when he was 19. Do you think that would be a good idea?

We gotta get Price off the books. If that happens we are golden.

Caufield could, if the season goes well, command what Suzuki got....7x7.875

PLD coming here an command the same. He is comparable to Suzuki.

Hubs will be the expensive one...but probably top out around 9. Amy more and I'm nervous.

I'd rather have those contracts spread out going forward with an increased cap hit then the big four contracts in Toronto....or even Edmonton. Contracts over 10 mil in this climate, suck. Build with a bunch of really good 7-9 million dollar deals.

Well…..we essentially drafted Suzuki, he grew up in the organization and we drafted Caufield, and we drafted Slaf, and we’ll draft next year’s top 5…..ya, pay the two local stars that want to play here and are still relatively young.

Looking at that list vs the Habs list it’s very apparent who has the better core (even with the Habs having PLD and Huberdeau). Hedman, Stamkos, Kucherov, and Vasilevskiy is by far better than any player on the Habs list with the exception of maybe Huberdeau. Habs have a very long road ahead to go to contend.

He’s off the books on LTIR…..think we are in the clear by the time Slaf and next year’s top 5 pick need a raise, Anderson and Price and Gallagher are clear.

Price 4yrs
Gally 5yrs
Anderson 5yrs

If you sign both PLD and Huberdeau and have Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, Anderson, Dach and next year’s top 5 pick…..my friend,….poopy,…..sunshine,……the rebuild is over and you are contending.

Who is playing defence and in goal?

The defence is currently terrible.

agreed but... he is 29 so in prime and Habs are not ready to challenge yet
He’s not a power forward so his skills are not dying out in his early 30s.

You keep saying there will be a top 5 pick, I wouldn’t bank on that. If Price is 100%, you can forget about it unless we win the lottery somehow.

Tampa’s list beats almost every team in the league…good thing for us is our guys are young and up and coming.

I mean we can’t quit playing hockey and sit out for 8yrs till they age out

Tampa has also always been better at signing undrafted players from our backyard. Somehow, we should have an edge on them for that but we don’t.

Also, we need to be better at cap circumvention. :sarcasm:

That could happen, I’m not banking on it though….chances of him not playing to not playing to standard is far superior then the reciprocal.

If Weber’s situation has taught us anything is that with age, it gets tougher and tougher to rebound from their types of injuries.

Agreed. And I like what is Hughes is doing, building a core of players who has the potential to be great in a few years, but it’s going to take time and a lot of patience. The Habs really need some of their defensive prospects to reach their ceilings, which won’t happen over night.

Really?? You just wrote that he's a top 10 player in the league and you don't skip such a player. The point is, what if he needs a 7 year deal @ 9M a year and has a huge decline in year 3 because he'll be 32-33 years old. Florida swapped him for a younger player for a reason. We need to learn from our previous mistakes.
Your Price comparison just makes no sense that's why I objected.

True but this is the first clean bill of health report in a long time. You saw what Price did in the COVID playoffs and that’s not that long ago. Once you display a skill, you own it (health permitting).

In 2yrs??

Guhle, Barron, Matheson, Mailloux for sure

Harris, Xhekaj, Norlinder, Hutson…..jeez, some of those guys have to hit at some point!!

I’d like to see the Habs sign Huberdeau (a similar contract to what Gaudreau just got would be ideal). But he isn’t going to turn the Habs into contenders over night. They still have a long ways to go.
Well, we have the whole next year to prepare and all our young guys will get one more year of experience.

If we land Huberdeau next summer the rebuild is over, we're starting to go for it.

All good prospects. But all of those players except Matheson are rookies and most haven’t played an NHL game at all. Are they really going to make that big of an impact as early as next season? I still think most (probably all) of them are a few years away.

Sounds more like he's not happy with how he was treated by Florida
I mean it was really shitty. You spend your career there and help make Florida become one of the league’s best teams and because you failed one playoff run, they ship you out for a player that isn’t necessarily an upgrade on yourself.

Judging by some of the comments in this thread I think a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised by how quickly this rebuild process goes, although there will be a lot of anger/freak outs next summer when the Habs start making aggressive moves to improve.

Zito has a quick trigger — without which we couldn’t have gotten that return for the lowly Chiarot.

Hughes said though, everything goes good with Price until he steps on the ice
