Brisson is a former Montrealer; he has a soft spot for the habsCaufield and PLD have the same agent
It will be interesting to see if Caufield tries to break the bank or sign a reasonable contract aligned with Suzuki.
He’s no dummy, clearly on paper a winger like Slaf will be perfect for him, coaching under MSL, etc. It would be nice to see him demonstrate a willingness to be part of a core for many years.
What about the atheists? Can they continue to discuss politics and covid? Can we stop talking about politics, covid in this thread for the love of god.
Much prefer the way Tkachuk went about it , giving his team a chance to get something of value for him vs. how Gaudreau strung the Flames along and they ended up with nothing. That’s literally what Tkachuk just did. That’s about as blatant a way to say “trade me” without being the bad guy.
Oh you missed Johnny hockeys letter to Cgy fans, his agent got a PR firm to write?Much prefer the way Tkachuk went about it , giving his team a chance to get something of value for him vs. how Gaudreau strung the Flames along and they ended up with nothing.
Couldn’t get myself to read it. Was it sealed with a crocodile tear?Oh you missed Johnny hockeys letter to Cgy fans, his agent got a PR firm to write?
Maxim Guérim, himself a contentious figure in here whenever his tweets are posted, has now (during his vacation no less) become a crusader to snuff out lesser sorts from their basements:

Not the first time he does it. He tends to speak his mind.So funny coming from Maxim Guerin
Johnny G did what was best for him and that’s fine. Seeing how Tkachuk is handling his wish to leave, perhaps fans are questioning whether Gaudreau could have not taken a more definitive and clear stance well in advance to at least have given the Flames a chance to recoup on their loss as much as possible.Don’t know why people are on Johnny G. He played out his contract and reaped the benefit of being a UFA. This is terrible asset management by Tre.

Yeah I have no problem with Johnny G. Similar to what Radulov did, which while it seemed to bug Bergevin, seemed like fair play to me. UFAs get to decide where they sign.Don’t know why people are on Johnny G. He played out his contract and reaped the benefit of being a UFA. This is terrible asset management by Tre. It’s not like there haven’t been rumblings of Johnny wanting to go south.

I knew you’d answer that and it’s not unreasonable. It’s just a lot more transparent and clear, and with plenty of advance notice the way Tkachuk is handling his wish to leave and that’s not taking anything away from Treliving’s incompetence. I’m sure Flames fans feel much more comforted knowing exactly what’s to come with Tkachuk and that at least, the club can get something of value for him.Flames had plenty of time to salvage some sort of return for Johnny G. It was no secret he wanted to go south, it’s been circling around here for years.
If Tre had a smidge of foresight when he went into his last year of his contract he would have moved him. This mess is all on Tre. Not having a star player signed a couple of days before they hit UFA is playing with fire and is a horrible way to manage an asset.
At least he didn't pull a Tavares, tell management he wants to stay when they asked him a few months prior, and then bail at FAJohnny G did what was best for him and that’s fine. Might have been the same outcome or not but at least Gaudreau would have been openly transparent. He would have been able to say that he gave them a fair, clear, advance notice, just like Tkachuk is doing now.Gaudreau could have told the Flames he was leaving prior to the deadline, but would the Flames have traded him at that point? He helped lead them to a Pacific division title, their best regular season in 33 years, and only the 2nd time they made it past the 1st round in the salary cap era.
I can understand why Flames fans would be disappointed in Gaudreau leaving (and the Flames get nothing in return except cap space) but I think that would’ve been the outcome anyways.
Absolutely unforgivable what Tavares did and Isles fans have vilified him repeatedly over it.At least he didn't pull a Tavares, tell management he wants to stay when they asked him a few months prior, and then bail at FA

Did Gaudreau even know at that trade deadline he was leaving though? If you take him for his word he said he didn’t make decision till the night before (see below). Any team who hasn’t signed a pending UFA at the trade deadline has to know there is a possibility he walks.
I don’t know enough about the state of that market. I just tried to connect some dots as to why some fans may have responded negatively to Gaudreau’s decision, which was your initial comment. If you can’t get a player to sign a long term deal before the summer should be enough notice for a competent GM.
Guys get traded and sent down all the time, and no one blames the team. Its business. Shit I bet Romo didn’t expect this summer to be on his way to the Island. The Habs moved him because they thought it was better for the team. There is no loyalty in professional sports. Fans are delusional to expect it.
Tre failed miserably.

He never actually said he wants out now, he told them he's not signing for more than 2 years. He's also not the one that came out publicly with this.
