Obviously a long shot but go heavy on EK and try that option 1st.

Having EK, Provy, Sanheim, Ghost, Gudas and Myers...holy shit.

Teams who are considering trading a top pair RHD won’t want 1-1.5 years of Gudas as a sizable portion of the return.

Probably not, but good players become available sometimes. Trouba is a RFA who went to arbitration once already and the Jets won’t have a ton of cap space. Pietrangelo also has 1.5 years until UFA. Hamilton is apparently on the block, although probably for forward help.

Maybe it’s the lesions but I just don’t see EK65 coming here and elevating the team that much, don’t get me wrong he’s top 5 in the league but sometimes I think he is well overrated just my opinion, and I would rather the Flyers sign a shoot first winger to play with G, and a good 3C, and/or a decent goalie to split the time with Hart, but I guess all we can do is wait and see what Fletch has planned

People whose opinion I respect completely are way more gaga for him than I am, and I would trust their opinion over my own. The thing I just can't get my head around is giving him 1/8 of our salary cap, which is what he would cost. One player at that position taking up that much of the cap, with the rest of the D we already have here and on the way (once we move out the garbage), just seems like a terrible idea to me.

I don't see Ghost as part of an elite pair, he's gotten better defensively (though he's regressed this year), but he has no special quality that would make him a 1st pair defenseman. He's not that fast, he's grossly undersized, his IQ isn't off the charts.

To me he peaked last year, has never regained his rookie burst (two years past surgery, he probably never will), and will never be better than last year when he was a solid 2nd pair defenseman and PP QB. I would not want to go against top teams in the playoffs with Provorov - Ghost from last year, the Penguins bitchslapped Ghost all series.

His biggest value is 4 years left on that contract, which is fine for a 2nd pair D-man and affordable for a 3rd pair Defenseman/PP QB, which is his future if he stays here (because Sanheim will be better 5x5 as soon as he cuts back the mind farts).

However, what do you do with Morin if he turns out to be the player some think he is?

We need another top RHD, Gudas has one year left and isn't going to get better.
St Ivany and Wylie are years away and questionable as top 4 types.

I don't know how you can look at the upcoming UFA class and think re-signing Simmonds would be a good idea. Here are the options who will be in Simmonds's ballpark--give or take: Donskoi, Ferland, Dzingel, Nelson, Brassard, Silfverberg, A. Lee, Hayes, Eberle, Nyquist, Johansson, Williams, Staal, Zuccarello, Vanek...

Then there are some other options who could be worth a look, though they don't score as much as Simmonds: Hagelin, Connolly, Panik, Boyle, Raffl...

I'm not against spending cap space at all, but we don't need to.

Go after top forward FAs, get a 1B goalie, re-sign TK, re-sign Provorov, re-sign Sanheim, re-sign Laughton (?), re-sign Stolarz (?), see what trades are available, and then we can just sit on whatever is left over until we need it.

Having options for the future is never a bad thing. What if a trade becomes possible that would require cap space? What if there's a FA we want next year? Plus, we're going to need to re-sign Patrick and Lindblom.

Thank you. It seems many posters are of the Edmonton/Buffalo view where they just spent to the cap because. Remember that contract Buffalo gave Ville Leino? Or Edmonton Lucic? UFA contracts need to be measured out - far too many teams have shipwrecked themselves because they had cap space and made stupid signings, then they can't get rid of them. Think of MacDonald's contract.

I'd package Ghost and the 1st we get from Simmonds, and maybe a mid-tier prospect for a top RHD defenseman like Trouba/Hamilton/Parayko.
Got to give quality to get quality.

Then Provorov - RHD play 24 minutes a night
Sanheim - Gudas 19 minutes
Morin - Myers 17 minutes
Hagg/Friedman as my 7th D-man

That would be a pretty awesome defense.
Skilled AND physical.

Ghost is better than all of those players and we are adding a 1st? No thanks.

Id rather keep the 65 point Dman and actually use him correctly.

Yep. Cap space is an asset just like anything else.

Imagine if we used up all our cap space in previous years, just because we had it, and we were then unable to be a part of the Panarin/Stone/EK bidding wars this year (assuming Fletcher will be motivated to try).

What if we get one of those players and they’re a key part of a future cup? We’ll sure as hell be glad we had it available to us.

Having options is never a bad thing.

Simmonds should get sent out for a NHL ready prospect and/or 1st rounder

Hogg for 3rd rounder

Backup goalie this offseason.

Weise, AMac, Lehtera need to go. Frost, NAK, Pimp, Myers, Morin call ups.

An actual NHL system to play.

Pipeline dream - sign Panarin in the offseason.

I'd trade Neuvirth for future considerations. If he plays and wins 5 games or more, get a 5th rounder. Or heck, ANY rounder. I can't imagine any team taking him unless there is a guarantee he plays.

Neuvirth would probably get injured packing to join his new team. He has no trade value.

Dream scenario for me

Simmonds for a first and a prospect.
Farmer for anything.
Neuvirth and Elliot for anything.
Lose Lehtera to coke, Weise to the stables.

Bring up Myers and NAK.
Sign Panarin in the offseason.
Sign coach Q in the offseason.
Sign backup goaltender for Hart.
Instantly become stanley cup contenders.

Giroux - Couturier - Konecny
Panarin - Patrick - Voracek
JVR - Frost - Lindblom
Laughton - Vorobyev - Raffl
NAK

Provorov - Myers
Sanheim - Gudas
Ghost - Morin
Hagg

Hart
Whoever

Just give us the cup. Pretty please.

Cap space is an asset yes but its more like a 2nd rd pick than a top prospect. Its only useful if it turns into something. We began this year with cap space and will finish with more of it and the team is worse for it. Cap space scores no goals blocks no shots and has a save percentage worse than a shooter tutor. I actually wouldn't be surprised if fletch didn't take a page out of holmgrens book and have us pushing the limit next year. But back to the topic at hand

Simmonds for a 1st and prospect. Which team gets him depends on who offers the best one. I'd be open to adding to get say Kapanen or puljujarvi as we are kinda flush on the b prospects but whatever.

Raffl for 2nd

I wouldn't pay to be rid of anyone as we're not in pressing need to open up space. Though ive brought up some unpopular trash for trash deals i think could work. That could change in the offseason though

Is there a change that we can bring 1st+prospect from both Simmonds and Gudas?

Simmonds+Gudas

for

B Prospect+1st/2019
B Prospect+1st/2020

or

A Prospect+1st/2019+1st/2020

If yes, can someone give me example of A prospect/B prospect from
these teams wich are interested ?

Try to acquire assets with Hägg,Laughton and Raffl.

Wet dream would be bring some Russian talent with trade ( Voracek <-> Tarasenko ) and from UFA ( Panarin ).
Bring Karlsson home.

What could be the price for Jordan Greenway? It would be just too crazy to roll 3rd line like Greenway-x-Ratcliffe.

I read up a lot on him in his draft year and was really impressed by the size/speed combo. I was hoping we'd get him with the second rounder we had (before trading it for Konecny's slot). I'd love to see him either as a C or W with Ratcliffe, but to acquire a young, cost controlled NHL player now, I think would be a lot more than what we'd be willing to give up. Minnesota with their cap issues, desperately need him at that cap hit, as the big guys really start fading (Koivu, Parise).
