Stillman, interesting.

Pretty crazy to get a former 1st rounder (who probably is a bust) and a 3rd for Glass and Gruden lol.

Stillman is having one hell of a crappy year given his draft pedigree and a solid rookie season. He's signed for next year, seems worth a shot.

What a nice lil consolation prize.

Not sure you want your AGM negotiating a big deal like Rakell. If prices were Beauvillier for a 5th, then sure. But when you're talking 1sts and top prospects....that's tough.

I don't let my managers negotiate deals or contracts over a certain value.
It's not really relevant now, given the follow-up post by Wyshynski, but I was thinking more along the lines of the AGM being able to handle things like dotting i's and crossing t's once the trade was sorted out, and then being the one to hang out in the phone queue while the GM moves on determine the parameters of other trades.
I mean, it seemed like they had all the parameters for the trade worked out, and were just waiting for Dallas and Rantanen to work out the contract details, and then it could go through. At that point, did they really need Tulsky being directly involved beyond a quick verification that everything was good to go?

The X Gen years were better than this because there were a lot of young guys and journeymen trying to stick in the NHL that tried their best and just sucked. Which I can empathize with. Story of my life, really.

Now we’re stuck with a bunch of old guys and never has beens coasting around collecting a paycheck and looking lost playing in Sully’s “system.” I’m not sure what that means for Sullivan that guys played harder for Eddie O than him. (Actually I do, but am sick of saying it)
Way easier to root for guys who try real hard and just suck shit, but have personality, than it is to watch the final decade of the Sid/Geno era get ground down to this unlikable, sanitized, zero event hockey paste.

I could be wrong but you could tell Dubas (for example) "hey if everything works with Rantsy, we want Rakell. Let's get some specifics in place and circle back if gets done".

Or your AGM can do that. Dubas can decide if that's worth his time or not.

If you ever start to think I know what I'm talking about remember that I thought Koltsov was gonna be awesome.

Me too. I was always high on him figuring it out. His feet were just too fast for his brain...to be fair, few players could ever think the game that friggin' fast. I'm still in awe of his skating.

Also also... back then this team was destitute and hopeless with basically no money. They had to include cash in the Jagr and Kovalev deals just to keep the lights on FFS.

THIS is a max-cap, fancy-pants ownership team. And this is what they've done with it the better part of a decade. And now that their only exciting players are old as dirt... there is nothing left to watch but a bunch of overpaid plugs who are coasting because their coach is their buddy and they aren't allowed to hit anyone, anyway and a Norris winning defenseman that the illustrious head coach wants to turn into Joe Melichar... speaking of the XGen. Oh and some young players we refuse to play I guess.

Not to mention a system that is f***ing eye poison. Say what you want about Edzo (he was terrible) but at least he mostly let his team go at it out there. And said "P'ZONE!" every once in a while which was fun.

Since 2000.

2nd round picks by us that have played more than 246 games in the NHL (3 seasons)

Daniel Sprong
Teddy Blueger
Scott Harrington

I mean, maybe Dubas pulls a rabbit out of a hat. But you are not getting franchise altering players in the 2nd round.

Says the guy pissed they didn't settle for a second for rakell..

Let's take a legitimate look at the TDL season for Dubas:
  1. Lars Eller for 2027 3rd round pick and 2025 CHI 5th round pick [Eller signed for free in 2024 off-season]
  2. Philip Tomasino for 2027 4th round pick
  3. P.O Joseph for future considerations (essentially free)
  4. Marcus Pettersson, Drew O’Connor for Danton Heinen, Vincent Desharnais, Melvin Fernstrom, NYR's c. 2025 1st (top 13 protected). (Signed DOC for free, got Pettersson from Sprong)
    1. Vincent Desharnais for 2028 5th
  5. Michael Bunting, 2026 4th for Luke Schenn, Tommy Novak (Got Bunting in the Guentzel trade)
    1. Luke Schenn for 2026 2nd round pick and 2027 4th round pick
  6. Anthony Beauvillier for 2025 2nd round pick (signed for free)
  7. Conor Timmins, Connor Dewar for late pick (by late pick, I assume they mean 6th or 7th)
  8. Cody Glass for 3rd round pick +
    1. Got paid a 3rd + 6th to take him for Frasca.
    2. Additional prospects to come.

Eller, 4th, Pettersson, DOC, Bunting, Beauvillier, Glass, Frasca, and a "late pick"

for

2025 1st, 2025 2nd, 2025 3rd, 2025 5th, 2026 2nd, 2027 3rd, 2027 4th, 2028 5th, plus another 2025 3rd and another 2025 6th, Fernstrom, Heinen, Novak, Timmons, Dewar, and any minor leaguers acquired with Glass.

If this is upsetting to you, you need to f*** off in the worst possible way. We are also on pace to get a top 5 pick in this draft.

ETA: Looking at who we sent out, honestly, Novak is as good if not better than them all.

LMFAOOOOOOOOO

Just doesn't want to admit the teams cheap.
Do GMs not know you can do multiple things at once?
I think he's trying to cover up his team's cheapness.

I think you can prepare for multiple scenarios and try to plan something and delegate with AGMs.

I don't think it's the correct way to look at a slew middle round picks as just a slew of middle round picks. They could also be leverage for a trade up or similar to what the Penguins have already done this year with Tomasino.

Get enough of those, and you can make major moves. I think the Penguins have plenty of picks. Hopefully they can capitalize on a few with some big moves.
When we had no middle picks we couldn't get the prospects needed. Eventually middling assets one or two become something. I like it.

That's a trade!

Can't complain.

So a recent 5th round pick and a busted 1st rounder from 3 years ago? Sure why not I guess
Good for the AHL squad.

Plus going to the games cost like $15 :wally:

Been almost an hour Kyle.
They only just officially announced the Glass trade, and we still haven't seen the trade with the Leafs, so he's still on the phone.

I'm starting to think the NHL requires every trade call to be hand-transcribed, and then mimeographed in triplicate before they're allowed to hang up.
Oh, and there's only one 80-year old guy doing all the handwriting.

It's the NHL way, after all!
