Penguins have cap-space, oodles of draft picks, and young players that are on the verge of becoming NHLers..

I know there's some people on here who are just negative to be negative. But McGroaty and Koivenen have been legit good as rookies in the AHL. Pickering will be a solid NHL dman. Murashov seems like the goalie of the future.

They'll have a top 5 pick this year. Tonnes of picks to make a move in the off-season for a young impact NHL player(s).

Karlsson will be traded and there will be more space/assets to fix the D-Core and goaltending.

Rakell - Crosby - Rust
Malkin - XXXX - XXXX
McGroarty - Novak - Koivenen/Tomasino
Heinen - Pono - Hayes/Accari

Targeting a winger like Boeser / Ehlers for that 2RW role and maybe they trade for a U-25 C with all of those picks they just attained. Maybe a Zegras or a Jared McCann or Jordan Kyrou types are available in the summer for that 2C role. That + the top 5 pick joining the team in a year or so as well.

For defence I would love for them to target an Orlov type on a 2-3 year deal with big money as the incenctive. This will be a more difficult fix since they have Graves/Letang/Karlsson money on the board.
Maybe Bowen Byram type becomes available in the summer as well. I like Fabbro/Lindgren as short stop gaps as well

Byram - Fabbro/Lindgren
Orlov- Letang
Graves/Pickering - Timmins/Kolya

Buyout Jarry and run with Jake Allen / Ned pairing and wait for Blom/Murashov

No, the key to rebuilding is to hold on to as many 30 something players with long contracts as possible ... Trading Rakell have accomplished nothing other than getting younger, freeing up cap flexibility and gaining more draft capital., that would be so stupid that it's beyond discussing.
We've traded multiple 30+ year olds this season

Everyone has been so miserable here the last couple of years. I get it, it's a tough time. Relax. It's agame. Dubas will do his best. It might not be good enough. Sullivan will do his best. It might not be good enough. But, there's a lot of variance in building a team. Take a breath and get back to having fun watching hockey.
I love watching young up and coming teams, even if they're losing. This current team is a bore. Their coach is a bore. The coach is the biggest problem.

OK so he WASN'T so much fun to watch lol

Dude failed at the inside/outside move he'd try when he just got in-zone so many times it started to physically hurt to watch.

That is if he even got in-zone. I've never seen someone put themselves offsides so many times. It almost felt intentional.

Him and Koltsov (RIP) were too fast for their own good

I think there was intrigue with the GenX guys because we had plenty of 1st/2nd rounders and a few highly touted guys but honestly, I think people romanticize that 2002-2005 period too much. Those teams were atrocious, especially in 2003-2004. By then, it was clear that none of them were gangbreakers. They were so bad that a mere win was a big deal but by and large, there was very little hope on any given game night.

Your comment shows that you have in fact not watched this team since the early 90's, cause if you had then you would know that this is the nadir,

The X Gen years were better than this because there were a lot of young guys and journeymen trying to stick in the NHL that tried their best and just sucked. Which I can empathize with. Story of my life, really.

Now we’re stuck with a bunch of old guys and never has beens coasting around collecting a paycheck and looking lost playing in Sully’s “system.” I’m not sure what that means for Sullivan that guys played harder for Eddie O than him. (Actually I do, but am sick of saying it)

Not negative.

Realistic.

Answer me this. Is there a team in the NHL that doesn't have similar, and mostly better, that they can point to in the minors? And most of the ones a team is excited about come up short in the transition from draft, minors to NHL player.

The Pens are at the end of one cycle and much closer to the start of a rebuild than near the end.

Saying otherwise is delusional.

Toward the end of the Gen Xers or whatever, but Remember when Patrick grabbed Pirjeta at the deadline and he finished out the year at like a PPG pace? Center with size who could score. I thought he was going to be tremendous.
