Trade Deadline Thread (March 3)

NJ is kind of insane to go for it with TM this year with no extension in place. The idea of them having to qualify him for 10m makes me laugh and laugh.

Trotz is reportedly taking over duties immediately, unless I read EF’s tweet wrong.

So we may never see the old guard types (Ekholm) get moved.
Sounds like Poile will stay on through the draft, but Trotz will join in some sore of "advisory" capacity until then. Basically Trotz will be getting some on the job training from Poile.

No sane person is going to do that.
He will, because he's the GM. Short of catastrophic injury or unforeseen circumstances, it's his roster, his coaching staff, so the buck stops with him.

But also, very little about the general discourse surrounding this team has been sane, so even on that point gmka gonna catch criticism and be called conservative.

It's all in the game.

meh, I’m not willing to call anyone aggressive or conservative with their actions when context has dictated what they do. Like you just said, we cant call him aggressive with trades because all the big trades he made were required by the context. But also, we can’t call him conservative because he’s been conservative due to the context of building a team through roster development.

If you want to qualify his many big trades with context, then I don’t agree at all with blanket “he’s been conservative”.
Having one’s hand forced into shipping out the biggest piece in every “big trade” makes it somewhat less big on the Sabres side of the scale. It’s inherently reactive, which isn’t at all the same as progressive acquisition. We’re lucky that he managed those as well as he did, but essentially it was harm reduction.

As to what makes him “conservative,” semantics aside, I think we’d agree on the qualifying characteristics.
