I would have liked Hronek in buffalo and that’s not a terrible price VAN paid. Puzzling why they did it, they don’t look like a retool to me.

We don't need him as PP guy, but how is he not an upgrade for our third pair? Guy can skate, move the puck, play both sides, for just a third thats good value, and we don't know how long Dahlin is out.

I don't get the move for either side. Vancouver seems like they're (yet again) trying to half-ass their rebuild......and Hronek is a legit top 4 guy for the DRW.
That said, the move would make perfect sense if they take the picks they got from the deal in order to get Chychrun -- sort of? How much better is Chychrun than Hronek? And why would they flip Hronek....who is a RHD for Chychrun...who is a LHD?
And speaking of LHD -- Detroit is LOADED at LHD right now.....they've got the immoveable boatanchor in Chiarot. They just re-signed Maatta and Walman....they've got Edvinsson and McIsaac in the minors who will push for spots next year and Wallinder who likely comes over next year. Meanwhile at RHD: Seider and a whole lot of nothing. I get that Chychrun can play the right side...........but again -- how much better is off-side Chychrun than Hronek? I don't think it's another 1st plus better........

Bryson is better in the defensive zone than Ghostbear. Bryson. Granted, Ghost is far, far better in the offensive zone...........but for a 3rd pair guy given that we have Dahlin and Power for PP duties? Zero need for Ghost at all.
Maybe it was the snag on his contract extension talks so Yzerman decided to pivot? Not sure.
As for Aquilini's Canucks, that's the ownership muddling in the way of an actual rebuild again. He's constantly against it so they are constantly a circus of half-baked roster maneuvers. Until he can take time to not be sticking himself into it, they're going to continue to spin their wheels as mediocre but not really bad enough to bottom out and not good enough to get in. Basically, TPegs 2011 but they've been doing this going back to him forcing Linden out.

Yeah... they would have given Parayko. I thought you were saying Yzerman would use the picks to go after Parayko. My point was why not just trade Hronek to STL for Parayko?
I guess, but the re-tool would make much more sense, especially if you're able to flip an old RD with a big/long contract for a good young RD under team control for cheaper. And the retool is reportedly what they're looking to do.
