Do they have the cap space without hurting the roster?

They were already talking about letting Severson and Graves walk to be replaced by LHughes and Nemec. Bratt's deal will be interesting, as will what they try to do with Meier. Given what they just gave up, I would imagine they're going to make every effort to get a deal done. It would also seem like Wood and Tatar will be allowed to walk - I've seen how angry Devils fans are at Wood's play since returning so they may be wishfully thinking but swapping two ELC's for 7M on the blueline, will be a big help in their ability to get everything done.

Meh- dudes come back from injuries looking ok, and a lot of guys could actually use the rest at this point.

That said, I start to get f***ing heated if I’m Chycrun. AZ has been sitting on this for over a year now- just move the dude. I get it, maximize value and yada yada- you just saw a highly valued player moved in a massive deal. Teams are buying now, AZ risks running out of dance partners if they don’t make something happen soon. Then what? Make your calls, take the highest bid, do it yesterday.

Less than five days until a hilarious 79 million dollars in accrued cap space just goes poof without getting any advantage for having it.

Pretty unfortunate we didn’t get Meier, I vehemently disagree with the notion that offering a substantial offer for him is shortsighted, not only does he add a dimension to this team we seriously lack but we are also taking that weapon away from a conference rival. Disappointing

Only explanation is Pegula.

He may decide to spend later when they’re closer to winning, but right now, 58 million dollar team and only bishop for 7th because we’d be illegal otherwise.

They can do 3 of what Minnesota did. They can improve positions.

Lack of creativity though screams “be cheap this season”

Sabres absolutely could have matched that offer (unless Grier would only accept defensive prospects), but I’m glad they didn’t.

I’m still hoping we go for Chychrun, but now I’m wondering if the price will be too high and we should instead just go for competent bottom pair D instead. Might be the best bang for our buck.

Anyone care to attempt to separate the values of Meier and Harrington to get an idea of what our offer would have been? I really have no idea on Harrington (and all the other pieces going to NJ are ECHL filler afaik). Is it...

Meier (50% retained) for '23 1st, Zetterlund, Mukhamadulin
Harrington for '24 conditional 1st, Okhotyuk

To me that feels like '23 1st, Peterka (developing 2-way B+ prospect), Kulich (A- prospect performing well) from us.
