I wonder what the "appropriate" deal for Whitney is if you re-sign him?

I'm thinking a 2 yr term between $2-3M per, anything more and it's too much. I would love to see Gagner get done here soon.

He and his agent couldn't honestly believe that he's worthy of anything near what he earned on this contract when considering his recent play and injury issues.

But, as I've said many times before, it's very rare to see a guy his age take a noticeable paycut to stay with the same team.

IMO, he guages the market's interest in him in the summer and if Edmonton's his best available option, he stays. The risk that goes with that is Edmonton moves on, which is very likely if that's what unfolds.

After all the drama surrounding him being benched a few times, and a few of his quotes, there is no way Whitney is re signing in Edmonton on a sweetheart deal like Smid did.

Gagner may leave some money on the table to stay here though.

The quote I posted earlier says otherwise. He's fully aware that there's a very real chance if he goes somewhere else, that he'll be in a worse position. I'm not suggesting he's going to sign for league minimum or anything, but if Tambo changes his mind and offers him a contract, I bet we don't pay market value

if Buffalo is selling, Steve Ott out of Buffalo? 2.9 cap hit probably isnt worth it.

56.2% in the circle with 18 points in 36 games. 149 hits. 65 PIMS.

Do you mean the grass isn't always greener quote?

Maybe I took him differently than you did, to me it sounded like he was aware the writing was on the wall the Oilers would be done with him at the end of the season if he wasn't traded before hand...

If he was interested in staying you'd think he'd say something to his agent to try and get some lines of communication going.

Don't know if it's posted but Wash signed Nate Schmidt.

Oil not having a lot of luck with free signings/additions this season...

The season is not over. Not to mention, most of the actual important stuff, usually, happens in the off-season around the draft and free agency. Who cares about Nate Schmidt. Or DeKeyser for that matter. They got Justin Schultz.

So I guess Joni Pitkainen suffered a serious Leg injury tonight. I wonder if they would be interest in some depth, some potentially magic Depth.

Ya. There was more to it though. If you read through it, it sounds like he wants to be here and the other guys in the room want him here

I agree. I think he does want to stay and the players want him to stay. I think he was really disappointed with how he was playing and he has picked it up in the last few games.

I have a feeling tambo won't make any NHL moves tomorrow

And i'm not happy about it i think they should try to make moves to help the team get into the playoffs because as optimistic as i like to be it'll be hard to make the playoffs if we don't do anything
Based on some trades lately i think a 2nd round pick and decent prospect can go a long way

Plus it will make for a boring trade deadline day, come to think of it, it might be a pretty boring day anyway

Myers is a pipe dream. Way too expensive.

I don't want Tambo to make a trade for the sake of making a trade. It's like everybody says, most hockey deals happen in the summer around the draft. Trade deadline is all about trying to win a Stanley Cup and its too tight of a play off race to sell off our prospects or 1st round pick.

I can see a surprising kind of move tomorrow. Tambellini seems to be known for pulling something out of his ass on deadline day. Whitney for Visnovsky was unexpected.. Penner to LA was a bit surprising and of course nobody thought Gilbert would be traded last year. I just hope we do something, because it would be huge for this fanbase and the team to know we are making a run at it. I want them to be buyers and be aggressive. If we add Streit, I will be satisfied. I think it would have a huge impact to the team. Maybe even an upgrade on Jones would be nice.

Its not for the sake of making a trade... We need a dman because the pairing of whitney -potter is pathetic and wont get us into playoffs. We need to use our forward depth and get a good Dman.

Instead of him, maybe Erhoff? I know he's got a crazy amount of contract left, but he's a top-4 defenseman with a solid all-around game, I wonder if you could get him for a good price because of the contract?

Some of you guys are suggesting Hemsky go as part of acquiring McBain?

I'm so sick of the McBain obsession around here.

I've never seen it with this player... I think he's bad. Essentially a poor mans Gilbert.

Definitely not worth giving up Hemsky for.

Ehrhoff's cap hit isn't bad, it's only 4 million and he can play top 4 mins and play PP.
He's got 8 years left on that and he's already 30 though, so we'd probably only be getting 2 or 3 good years out of him.

He's also got a NMC/NTC built in as well..
