I don’t know that he’s never played LW but according to Kings fans, he’s never really played LW there...I’m sure he could do it, but why

I'm with you.

The trick is this. What if everyone is healthy and Sully keeps BART. That means EROD as L3 RW is more likely than GOAT as L3 C. Ergo, Carter is playing center.

We'll see . . .

EDIT: One thing on Kapanen on the LW. Just because it didn't work in Toronto doesn't mean it wouldn't work with Malkin. I'd be loathe to try it game 1 in the playoffs, but I think Kapanen works better with Malkin than he ever did with Matthews or Tavares, and that's a consideration vis-a-vis making a Pittsburgh related declaration on Kapanen on Malkin's LW.

Granted they're completely different kinds of players, but in general I don't see the need to add a top-9 forward within the next 2 years (so until the end of the 2021-2022 season) unless Carter retires after this year.

Even if the Penguins lose say Zucker in the expansion draft next year, they still have this lineup going into next year:

Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Carter-Malkin-Kapanen
McCann-Blueger-Tanev
ZAR-Gaudreau-XXXX

If Carter doesn't retire and subject to what, if any, young kid gets a look.

BTW, can Carter actually play LW? If he can, then a Carter-Malkin-Kapanen line is certainly plausible for the playoffs, no?

Is Carter only able to play on the RW? Could've sworn I've seen him on the LW a few times, maybe international play, but I'm old and senile . . . :D

You're much too critical of yourself.......I think of you as just senile......... That's not bad.........everyone else I think of as BATSH** CRAZY.

Wait so now Carter is ED-protected, right?

So we're exposing Blueger or McCann even if we manage to move Zucker.

This is going to get me a lot of sh1t from many parts I'm already familiar with...but depending on what team docs are saying I'd also explore moving Guentzel this summer. Unless something really changes his body just isn't allowing him to give a F about 2-way play and defense anymore. The level of effort is abysmal.

I don't know if Carter can play LW, I was just throwing the lineup up. The initial thought I had was McCann-Malkin-Kapanen and Tanev-Blueger-Carter, but I went with Carter on L2 and McCann on L3 because I liked that setup better.

Either way, I think I'd rather just give guys like Angello, Zohorna and maybe Poulin a chance next year over signing Laughton now that they have Carter under contract. If Carter retires after the year, that obviously changes though.

No, Carter has no clauses on his contract and does not need to be protected.

Carter's trade protection was "I'll retire if you trade me".
