The Sens want a vet leader, so I imagine they’d re-sign Dumba.

Having watched Ristolainen since he came into the league, I wouldn't trade the turd I flushed this morning for him. At least the turd is going to turn into fertilizer one day.

Schmaltz, Dumba, and the two Chychrun 2nds for Norris (or Pinto)? :)

I feel like I’m dreaming as much as @Schemp - haha.
Yeah I don’t see that haha, but, I am kind of feeling now more than I ever have before that Schmaltz might actually be on the way out at the deadline. I feel like now is the time if someone is willing to take his contract. We’d have to take salary back in some form I’m assuming, but I feel like this might be BA’s last chance to haul in some future assets and have another killer draft. Or we see more of a hockey trade with Schmaltz being part of a Hanifin type deal…

Craig kinda alluded that Schmaltz may be a guy to watch at the trade deadline. Had interest last year. Dont know how such a deal could happen with teams under the cap squeeze and schmaltz’s contract, but I’d be up for it

No but the actual cash it frees up allows us to improve in other areas and build a better overall team that better suits the type of team that BA and Bear want to ice.
We have $14.3 million coming off the books this year between Voracek and Little. I don't believe those are 100% insured.

We have $9.2 million coming off the books this year between Zucker and Dumba. Neither of those guys are giving us the minutes or production that Schmaltz is.

There is money available for Bill to execute his plan without having to sell our top line winger.

Valid points. I just don't know how many small skilled (injury prone?) wingers you can have on a team and expect to compete for a playoff spot. I don't think that is the type of team that BA wants. I know i myself have been clamoring for years for more size. It's a balance though because Schmaltz is one of the few players we have currently who can create offense (which is where I believe you are coming from) and he and Keller do have great chemistry. I just don't know if it's worth the actual $8.5M per year in actual salary that Schmaltz is scheduled to earn the next 2 years. And you have players like Cooley and Guenther who are going to be contributing more and wanting more prime PP time that you currently are giving to Schmaltz. If I was in management I would be asking myself the cost/benefit question. There comes a time when you will have to make this move.

I thought Schmaltz was a goner last year.

I think we can bear Schmaltz's loss a year from now. When Guenther is more ready for top matchups. When But is ready to join the club. When it's clear that we've broken free of the losing culture.

True, but if you can make a hockey trade that includes Schmaltz for C or a D you have you consider it, I would think.

Good point, and this might be the case. It's going to be an interesting next couple of weeks.

You still need Schmaltz even 2yrs from now because you already have But coming, but that is it, unless you're going to put Geekie on the wing to start, otherwise, need to keep Schmaltz.

I agree. The way this team is crumbling we could end up not much better than last year, which would not be acceptable in my eyes. Any player should be available in a trade not named Cooley, Guenther and Keller. Let's see how it all ends this year because right now we are void of talent in the areas we need talent, high end talent.

Schmaltz is a winger. They are easy to find. Schmaltz has talent mind you, so I would use Schmaltz in a trade for a C or D if possible.
