OUT: Necas, Drury, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

IN: Stankoven, Hall, 1st, 1st

If that was the trade in January, we'd all be perfectly happy. Once you sort through the drama we're better than we were (assets-wise) on Jan 24.

This is the correct way of thinking about it, but it certainly could have been a better return, given the path we used to get us here.

Necas, Drury, 2nd, 3rd and 4th for a 2 month Rantanen rental is a bad trade
Stankoven, 1st, 1st, and an old Hall for an 8 year extended Rantanen below his own asking price is also bad

Weren't you pushing back on me 6 hours ago questioning why I felt strongly that we should get more for Rantanen than NYI got for Nelson? And now you're saying we should've gotten an even better return? :sarcasm:

Sounds like we're getting 2 3rds as well, in additional to the 2 1sts.

It's a flux situation.

At the beginning of the year, would you have traded Necas + Drury for Hall, Stankoven and two 1sts (or Boeser, if that comes to fruition)?

I would have, in a heartbeat. Thus, overall, this trade worked out for us.

Still wouldn't be shocked if his agent was the biggest part in him f***ing us over. Especially after seeing that Athletic piece.

We flat out need to avoid guys with certain representatives basically
Can anybody give an out-of-the-loop Kitties fan the scoop?

This is a super logically flawed way of looking at this in multiple ways, not the least of which is you're including Hall in the second trade for some reason?

At the end of the day, we improved our asset position between January 24 and now. Given Rantanen didn't want to play for us, that's a pretty good thing.

In a heartbeat? Is one group of assets really that much better than the other? That’s still a mediocre trade that doesn’t really do much for our team.

Yes, in a heartbeat. We knew Necas wasn't sticking around long, and while Drury was a good soldier, his type of player are a dime a dozen.

Hall is a veteran Top 6 forward, Stankoven is a young C with potential, and the two firsts are valuable trade pieces, which we could use to get someone like Boeser, the guy who scored 40 last season.

Accepting that Rantanen was never going to sign with us and treating him as a facilitator to acquire other pieces of the deal makes the whole thing a lot better.

I'll try to find the link but basically a not insignificant number of agents they interviewed for the piece had Dundon listed as the most difficult front office/owner to work with in the league.

I am still blaming managment more than Rants rn. Do your frakin homework. ET has an hour before I revoke my Fangirl status lol

How? They weren't given permission to talk to Rantanen before the trade, so they traded for him hoping that the team performing well and being besties with Aho would convince him to sign. Obviously, neither happened. Wasn't much homework to be done outside of that.

Yep.

By laundering Rantanen the way we did (turning him into an "extended" Rantanen) we probably ended up getting more for Necas than we ever would've trading him directly.

Everyone mad about this needs to get themselves out of "but I wanted to extend Rantanen" mode. Yeah, we all did. It clearly wasn't happening. We've improved our asset position by this overall experiment. It's fine.
