There are none. Selling Savard and Armia now for 2nd or 3rd round picks would be insulting to players who have fought through a lot to get back in the race. Imagine you're Josh Anderson, playing through multiple injuries every night only to have the front office capitulate.

I can't think of one either. It seems like a suggestion that's completely out of touch with reality yet I've been reading it many times in this thread. Is this a board about EA NHL 2025 or an actual real life sports team ?

Cozens is the ideal target for the Habs. Ideal age. Great potential but not at his peak value.

We could benefit from this one and we absolutely have the assets to make it happen.

The Sabres are a division "rival", so I'm not holding my breath but that would be nice!
Except he sucks... Hey, ideal target for tanking :D

So. Who's interested in gutting the farm for Pastrnak? Bruins are finally cooked with nothing on the horizon. I can't see Pasta just wanted to stick out the rest of his prime on a rebuild. McAvoy too but I think they're hold onto him since elite D can maintain play into their mid-late 30's.

Caps last year

They were 5 points out by the deadline. They sold Mantha, Kuznetsov, Edmundson and made the playoffs. They are much improved this year too.

I think that would be the closest, but 5 points is a pretty significant number at this point. They also didn't sell Kuznetsov either, they got rid of him, he was about the be an AHLer.

The top 5 scorers on the team are going to be here long term. The rest of the team will be here mostly next year too when they add Demidov and Reinbacher. Of course trying for a run is important.
Well you are talking to someone who doesn't think we have a hope in hell of making the playoffs.
I would have already sold everything possible and replaced everybody we dumped with hot doo doo and started making plans to find a way to get the best possible pick at the draft so we could begin using some very high end assets to fill the glaring holes we have on this team. The ones Hutson and Caufield and Suzuki are suffering with today and have no business suffering with for another season. Basically I don't think playing in these games down the stretch is going to move the needle one bit in the grand scheme of things. :sueme:

Wer already tried for a run. Anything that happens today wont change that. I'm honestly very surprised by the amount of people who think trading Armia and Savard and replacing them by Reinbacher and Davidson would make this team significantly worse. I bet you it would not change much. But we'll never know because we'll do what we did best for the last 30 years which is stay in no man's land and lose players for nothing.

Selling Armia, Dvorak, and Savard means you've given up on trying to make the playoffs. When you are a young team learning how to win, trying to make the series, even knowing that winning the cup is a long shot, is still worth while experience.

Are a handful of 3rd and 4th round picks really worth not getting this team experience? I don't think so. The club is right on the cusp of a playoff position playing some good hockey. Unless someone is gonna pay 1sts for these players, I really just don't see the point.

The habs should really just focus on one type of trade, and that is a hockey trade for a centre.

The habs won't win the cup this year no matter who they add, but that isn't the point. There needs tobe a winning culture. You don't want to be Buffalo or mid 2010s Edmonton.

I'd have no issue selling Armia or Savard for the right deal.

Savard can barely roll around out there and Armia, while a great 4th liner, isn't going to be the difference between winning and losing games.

As much as I dislike Dvo, we can't trade him because there's no one to step in for him at the moment, unless they can use those picks + to bring in a 2nd line center and drop Beck down, as they should.

Rantanen seeking a Draisaitl contract without being anywhere near the caliber of player. Take the 13 million/year or you’ll regret it.
Nah, if I'm Rantanen I sign a one year 17-18 million $ deal then sign an 8 year extension when the cap is at 100M. Teams like the habs for example would have the cap space to do it by putting Price on off season LTIR. Doesn't even need to sign with a team he wants to sign the extension with, just sign with a bottom feeder, get paid MAX cap, traded at next years deadline to a contender, then sign 8x14-15M. Would get WAY more money this way, now that he's no longer with COL he doesn't have allegiances to anyone.

You would lose that money. If this team makes the playoffs they would be coming in as one of the hottest teams in the league with a ton of momentum. I'd bet on them pulling the upset.
Let's hope they make the playoffs and see what happens. I will be happy to be wrong.

The stretch (20 games):

- In Calgary vs Flames
- In Vancouver vs Canucks
- In Seattle vs Kraken
- vs Panthers
- vs Senators
- In New York vs Islanders
- vs Avalanche
- In St. Louis vs Blues
- In Philly vs Flyers
- In Carolina vs Hurricanes
- In Florida vs Panthers
- vs Panthers
- vs Bruins
- vs Flyers
- In Nashville vs Preds
- vs Red Wings
- In Ottawa vs Senators
- In Toronto vs Laughs
- vs Black Hawks
- vs Hurricanes

11 road games, 9 home games, Panthers x3, Hurricanes x2, Sens x2, Flyers x2.

At this point, getting a 2c is the decision factor in whether they sell or not. Last few game have proven that without that 2C to have another offensive line, there are very little chances to make the playoff. At that point, may as well sell if the return is decent.

You get a 2c... then yeah, keep the UFA and push hard.
Last few games - they’ve gained ground in the playoff race.

I'm pretty our position is a diamond hands kind of approach. If you are willing to overpay for what we have we can make a deal. If not, then don't bother we'll just keep them.
I think this is pretty accurate.

I also think the Habs feel like they have the assets for a hockey trade (and I think they do as well), they just need to find a partner.

You are not wrong, but not adding a 2c makes the hunt for the playoff a futile exercise. Can't win with only one offensive line and over-using Evans lines. Players can still play hard for the rest of the season without Savard and Armia...

We dont know what are the prices and what is available. But if the price is right and we can't get a 2C... I would be ok with letting these two go.

I'm guessing Rantanen has his Stanley Cup and now just wants to get paid. A team like Utah can give him $14m easy. Ditto Columbus, Calgary, Anaheim, & Chicago. None Stanley Cup contenders but a shit load of cap.
But you know where he wants to sign. It looks obvious to me: Florida or Vegas.
