DW thinks the rear guard needs to have veteran savvy just in case. He doesn't feel the AHL kids can step up to playoff level which is understandable. And I dislike Torres as much as anyone, but he is far and away better than Pelech or Gogol. I mean, incomparably,

Plus trading those 3 players doesn't mean he wasn't worried about the playoffs. Two of them were addition by subtraction. The games Clowe missed showed that the team didn't need him to be successful.

I don't disagree that he's better than either Pelech or Gogol. But unless DW really thinks this team has a chance to win a Cup (which they don't, at all), then trading ANY assets for ANY rentals is monumentally stupid. These are exactly the times when you find out which of your youngsters can handle the grind leading up to, and possibly into, the post-season.

I can't articulate how idiotic adding "depth" in this situation is. But then, I had to go and say before bed last night that DW would find a way to ruin the positive trend he was on, and sure enough he went and did it.
