That was phenomanl return on Pominville. Really makes what the Sharks acquired for Clowe look bad. I get that Pominville has a good contract and was playing better, but still. Does the same for the Iginla deal as well...

Pominville is almost a Marleau-caliber player. Not quite as good, but much better than Clowe/Iginla (who's lost it IMHO). He's a leader, a great two-way possession player, and can pop them in the net.

The thing to worry about with Pominville is that he was not good when he was away from Hodgson and Vanek, particularly Vanek. And a lot of his points came in that initial rush of Vanek at the beginning of the season, even moreso than Marleau and Thornton and Pavelski.

I think DW was in a bad spot in regards to trading Clowe, he had a NTC and completely dictated where he wanted to go. With this, the Sharks were kind of forced into selling low on him, or not moving him at all and face losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

Pominville is better than Clowe and it really isn't close. Not to mention different contract situations. You can't compare the two at all.

NHL teams play to win. They don't tank. The best way to run an organization is to always try your best to win. If that doesn't happen, then get better any way you can so that you can win, both now and in the future.

I really can't believe that any Sharks's fan wouldn't want them to make the playoffs. It isn't like the team is in 27th and you are hoping that they slide to 30th so they get a higher pick....

Good post. I agree.

That too, looking at the trade, Larsson and Hackett are hardly "blue-chip" prospects. Probably equivalent to SJ trading Nieto and Sateri.

Wow, Tortorella must have been some kind of *******. Almost makes me feel bad for Clowe.

Clowe will probably be one of Torts' favorites, his kind of player. Assuming they get the Clowe who uses his size.
