What I want to happen today

Stemp for more picks
Package deal for Drouin/Duchene
McClement for a pick as well
Pick up some players on waivers for our main roster

What will probably happen today...

Stemp for a pick and may be one waiver pick up or absolutely nothing.

There's no way Fleury and TT return Landeskog or Duchene, so why even bother? Not even sure Arizona would trade Duclair for TT. Trade Stempniak and that's it. TT still have some potential.

I'm tired of the Canes org tooting the ol 'we have xx draft picks in the first 3 rounds'. Who gives a poop, this is the weakest draft, I'm not excited about that. I'm over the getting picks for kids who may or likely may not pan out. Know what would get me excited, a big trade to bring in a true offensive weapon. If Duchene and/or Landeskog get traded today and we could have paid what the price was, i'm gonna be pissed. Now is the time to do something. No one on this team should be untouchable except Slavin and Aho, IMO. Time for GMRF to get some balls.

Even better that the STM renewals came out today. Yes, we are selling and tooting draft picks, give us all your money.

If Francis is trying to acquire a 1C and Peters sees TT as a C, TT has Jordan and Rask in front of him already. No harm in gauging value at this time of year though.

Very few "big trades" (excluding rentals) occur at the deadline, particularly for non-contending teams. I'll be shocked if the Canes did that right now. Prior to the expansion draft or prior/at the NHL draft is more likely if one is to occur.

I really disagree with this statement. Yes, this considered a "weak" draft, but that is because of the front end talent. Most players in the late first/2nd/3rd rounds are gonna be the same type of players in any other draft year. Our scouting has been fantastic in those 2nd and 3rd rounds. Having more darts to throw at the board will help those chances. Even better yet, we can use those picks for packages or moving up in the draft. This is something to be excited about.

Also, for years we lamented that under JR, we never "drafted and developed". With that, comes pain, but now that we are seeing that pain, "drafting and developing" becomes less palatable.

This is my thinking as well. If the original plan was Rask, Jordan, TT as our centers, but now we have a chance to draft a 1C or acquire that through a draft, try and see what we could get for TT.

Seriously, if we were looking to make a big splash, the time was earlier when we had a chance at the playoffs. Much less chance of it happening now until before the expansion draft at the very least.

And I really don't understand anyone that has lamented the quality of the draft. 2007 was thought to be not a great draft, and you can find some pretty big time talent throughout it, for instance. What the hell else was Francis supposed to do other than get picks for the draft that's here? Hold onto the players and not take the picks? Seems dumb.

I think by the time all is said and done, i.e. the draft being over, we'll have no problems with having acquired all those picks as they'll likely have been used for much more than drafting 11 or more prospects. We're all frustrated about not having made the playoffs in so long, but as mentioned, it's silly to complain about the effectiveness of JR over the years, and then pile on Francis for doing what most of us wanted done years ago. Now, if he doesn't show some huevos this summer, I get it, but I think we're where we should be at the moment.

Only trade I see which makes sense for TT is a Erat-for-Forsberg-type panic trade (if it's out there). A team that wants a Cup run boost at the cost of a blue-chip guy. I'm not sure what realistic options are there, maybe something like PLD out of Columbus or Buchnevich from NYR (doubtful with forward depth they have).

I don't get all the hate from this year draft. Remember when 1999 draft was supposed to be one of the greatest drafts ever? You never know. If you are good, you could find talent. That's it.
