Right now I'm not sure who's worse Snow or Alderson?
Lol, this is a little off topic but I have to respond since the facts aren't even in question on who has done the better overall job between Snow vs. Alderson.
Snow and his staff took a team completely devoid of high-end talent and with no core or minor league system, tore it down and built it back up into a young and exciting team with lots of depth in the system from scratch.
To be fair, Alderson has done some good things too, however, he is a steward and not an innovator. The best thing he has done is trade away existing veteran talent like R.A. Dickey (for TDA and Noah Syndergaard) and Carlos Beltran (Zack Wheeler) to bring in some high-quality pieces and drafted/signed some complementary players. Although he should have done the same with Reyes once he knew he couldn't resign him. That was a wasted opportunity that probably set the Mets rebuild back by a year.
Otherwise look at all of the players that were on the Mets roster or brought into the system before Alderson and his team arrived:
- Existing players on the roster before Alderson include: David Wright, Daniel Murphy, Lucas Duda, Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, Bobby Parnell, Ruben Tejada and Kirk Nieuwenhuis.
- Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Matt den Dekker, Josh Edgin and Erik Goeddel, were all part of Omar's last draft (2010) and Steven Matz was taken the year prior (2009); and
- Familia, Meija, Wilmer Flores and Juan Lagares were all signed as non-drafted free agents before Alderson's regime took over.
Alderson and his team brought in Bartolo Colon, Curtis Granderson and Michael Cuddyer via free agency, and the jury is still out on those signings. At best they are placeholders five years into a rebuild. Vic Black and Dilson Herrera were acquired via trade for Marlon Byrd and John Buck and that deal could potentially be a steal. Rafael Montero was also signed and might be a player and maybe Brandon Nimmo and Conforto work out in the OF but they have a long way to go. Meanwhile many other smaller free agents were complete busts.
Snow and his team have easily outpaced Alderson and his team so far on roster and system building IMHO. The overall body of work and results (the Isles should be in the playoffs for the second time in three years) is just not comparable. And I am a huge Mets fan truly hoping for the best, but I see a pitching-heavy team with a lot of offensive flaws and a front office who has gotten lucky that talent already in the system is maturing to keep them afloat.
