Trading McCabe makes a lot of sense to me and is something I've been thinking should be explored.

Love the player, but there's a couple reasons why I think moving him would be the right move.

1. There's lot of hard miles on him, things could start going down hill fast.
2. He's the type of player teams want, especially playoff teams and could bring back a strong return.
3. It's a lot easier finding a quality LD in UFA so would be easier and cheaper to replace that way.

Seravaelli is dumbass. Each team does this shit behind closed doors but for some reason, once again if the leafs do it, it's a big deal.

With all the stars asking for trades from Larkin to Hellebyuck (apparently) and even guys like Thomas and Parayko on the block... once again, Toronto steals the spotlight. Nobody is complaining their respective teams asking a lot or taking their time lol

I've got no-issues trading McCabe.

Though ideally I'd like a younger D man coming back in the trade rather than a purely futures orientated deal. Or if a team would be willing to offer a centre for him.

He's a good player but at an age where decline could be setting in, and the Leafs would be selling high on an asset

You might as well trade Tanev and OEL while you're at it.

No player should be off limits for talks. Whether it happens or not is a whole other story. If a team wants to pay, you'd be crazy not to explore it.

I'd be fine with even one more add of significance to the blueline (top or middle pair) and the subsequent subtraction of another to fit the incoming blueliner in. Could be that there's even more "fun" to be had?

Is he throwing every d man to the wall now? We can’t replace everyone

I can see a potential outcome where Tanev and OEL are the only two that stay on from last year.

Rielly already has smoke about a potential trade and the team could use a symbolic shakeup from the old core. And McCabe and Carlo both will have positive trade value and the team needs to get younger + fill some other holes (centre and younger puck moving D men), and neither guy is great at puck movement.

Tanev is too old and signed too long for anyone else to want (probably), and OEL has the skillset the team is looking for in D men

Trade McCabe to New Jersey for Mercer? Keefe loves McCabe. Not sure if the new analytics GM in New Jersey loves McCabe though

Gotta say, I’m all for signing
Ferraro
Tuch
Raddysh - I’m on the fence depending on AAV

Trading
Knies for top draft picks or C or D
McCabe 3C or 2/3 RW
Rielly - whatever.

20 goals though and only 24 years old. Also I think Mercer can play center if needed. Future 3C? What would be a good return for McCabe?

We already lack quality defensemen. Mercer is fine, nothing against him. Pretty sure he's never played full time center at the NHL level.

This would probably a time to get younger and replenish the part of the lineup that is weak. I'm not sure exactly what kind of return I'd want or expect, but one for one for a mid winger would be a non starter.

maybe mercer + 12th, might even ask for a 3rd piece tbh

Mercer alone I value very very low, he's a 35-45 point C/W hybrid who penalty kills, is also pretty soft

you know who that sounds...alex kerfoot

Who has extra C’s? Seattle? Utah?

Wright? Hayton? O’Brien? (Is he going to play C at the NHL level?)

Please give prime examples of how he's going downhill fast.....

Ranked #1 for defenseman in blocks.
Ranked in the top-40 for defense in hits.
McCabe was still a +3 on one of the worst teams lastyear, while playing hard minutes + PK.
Jake is +46 the last three years.
He had his highest TOI average last season. Yeah lets just trade away our #2 & #3 defense if that's the case we should be striping down the whole core for a proper rebuild.

A lot of trolls on this forum or people just lack knowledge and dont care too do some research before posting.

Dreger just being unique for clicks TBH

Moving McCabe only makes sense if they’re rebuilding. The left side on D is already not deep especially if they’re moving Rielly

If you can trade McCabe for a good return and then replace him with Ferraro… That’s some good asset management.

It doesn't really make much sense to me. I think it's just people having no idea what's 100% going on so they need talking points. We'll see.
Exactly.

Now I am not suggesting anyone is untouchable but when trading guys like McCabe, Knies and even OEL and Carlo.
Leafs need to find replacement for those players either via UFA or the package coming back.
As they are not a team that is building for 5 yrs from now.

My strong feeling is we:

1) Trade two wingers (Knies/Joshua/Domi/Maccelli/Robertson)
2) Trade a defenseman (Rielly/OEL/Carlo)
3) Sign a winger (Tuch/Marchment/McMann)
4) Sign two defensemen (Ferraro + Raddysh)
