If Rielly did provide a list, I wonder how many teams are on it. I can see these teams on it,

Colorado
Nashville
Los Angeles
San Jose

The part that people forget is that in a deal like:

Knies
Col 1rst

4AO
Frondell (former 3OA)

People are forgetting, we are getting 7 million in cap space too.

So, it’s really:
Knies / Col 2027
For
4OA
Frondell
Raddysh (8 million)

I do this all day.
No to lottery tickets for me.

The only way I'm dealing with Chicago is if I'm getting some kind of package that looks like...

To Chicago
Matthew Knies
Brandon Carlo
Nick Robertson
2027 1st Round Pick

To Toronto
Teuvo Teravainen
Tyler Bertuzzi
Sam Rinzel
Anton Frondell
4OA 2026

I have to win now and later to move Knies.

McKenna-Matthews-Nylander
Bertuzzi-Tavares-Tuch
Cowan-Teravainen-Tolvanen

McCabe-Raddysh
OEL-Rinzel

Frondell, Danford, Luc-Koblar in the pipeline, along with whichever of Reid, Carels, Smits, Malhotra or Stenberg they draft at #4.

I see this and start wondering whether signing Kap and Soup is a more realistic option than an inside Leaf joke.

Kapanen makes a ton of sense.

Mikhayev less so

Notable playoff disappearances and he's gonna likely come in at least 1 but maybe 2M more than Kapanen, left shot forward too.

I could see:

To DAL: Knies, McCabe
To TOR: Harley, Bourque

To DET: Rielly, Robertson
To TOR: Compher, JBD

To NJ: Stolarz, Maccelli
To TOR: Markstrom, Hamilton

OS Drury 3.9Mx6

UFA:
Bjorkstrand 5Mx3
McMann 5Mx3

Cowan-Matthews-Nylander
McKenna-Tavares-Bjorkstrand
McMann-Compher-Bourque
Joshua-Drury-X
Lorentz

Harley-Hamilton
OEL-Tanev
Andrae-Carlo
JBD

Markstrom
Hildeby

All of Markstrom, Compher and Hamilton’s contracts expire when Matthews does. It gives them a clean slate for the end of Matthews deal.

I will trade both of them for Evangelista.

The two of them would end up in Nashville's top 3 lines since the are lacking left wingers. I still don't think Nashville does it, but I can actually make 3 decent balanced lines with Nashville's roster after this trade.
Lol I know you would Evangelista is better than both of them.

I think I saw somewhere the other day and I posted about it in pretty sure... but he had at least 3 or 4 and he said the list could expand which is good for the Leafs in terms of what they could get back. It probably is all about retention. If they do a bit of that I think they could still get a pretty solid return.

Mo has been one of my favourite Leafs during his time here ... but its time for him to move on... I wish him all the best and hope he lights it up on a new team.

Is he throwing every d man to the wall now? We can’t replace everyone

Dreger is under the impression the Leafs need cap space to sign Raddysh, which is why they did the Woll move and why they want to create more space... I don't think he understands the Leafs have ~30M of space.

With that said, it'll be interesting to see what the Leafs do if the plan is to not have any untouchables outside of the obvious. You like McCabe, alright let's talk big price. These things rarely ever materialize anyway.

With the goaltending and coaching sorted out, we move to forwards (defence is a work in progress).

McKenna Matthews Tuch
Knies Tavares Kane
Cowan Jenner Nylander

Sign Jenner to a 2 year deal at a bigger cap hit which expires to make room for McDavid as 1C when hes a UFA.

Yeah, normally the better player is worth more.

Interestingly though, both Maccelli and Robertson outscore Evangelista, per 60 minutes 5v5.

If we move McCabe we better be getting a 2nd line center, comparable puck mover or at least a 1st + 2nd (i.e., the price we paid for him).

Cowan - Matthews - Tuch
McKenna
- Tavares - Nylander
McMann - Sillinger - Kapanen/MBN
Malenstyn
- Rasmussen - Perry
Quillan* Domi (LTIR)

McCabe - Raddysh
Mateychuk
- Tanev
Andrae - Peeke/Desharnais
Stetcher* Villeneuve* Danford*

Stolarz
Hildeby/AA

UFA Signings

Tuch, McMann, Kapanen*, Malenstyn, Raddysh, One of Peeke/Desharnais.

Trades

- Knies for Mateychuk + Sillinger + 1st '26
- OEL + Joshua + Maccelli RFA for Rasmussen + Det 2nd '26 + MBN
- Reilly (To Sharks) for Avs 2nd '26
- Robertson for Pens 2nd '26
- Carlo for Ducks 2nd '27 + Colangelo
- Lorentz for a late pick

Draft picks (Top 90)
1st, 14th, 47th, 54th, 60th, 62nd, 69th, 85th

Gives us tremendous flexibility on how we utilize all those picks. Moving up, player trade, futures trade to strengthen the '27/'28 drafts, while greatly deepening and diversifying our current prospect pool.

Absolute haul of UFA signings but Tuch specifically is the current best solution for that 1RW spot since all he cost is money. Kapanen may be redundant if MBN is ready and ideally earns that 3RW spot. Colangelo starts in the AHL. Bottom 6 is completely revamped and harder to play against. Defense is vastly improved with the additions of Raddysh and Mateychuk (losing Knies sucks, but Mateychuk seems legit with top pairing potential, while Danford's showing promise to eventually become a young Tanev). Can rotate in a vet on the 3RHD spot depending on match-up.

I wonder if they are thinking of moving McCabe and then signing a guy like Ferraro to rebuild him into the new McCabe. Does anyone know what Ferraro's analytic profile looks like?

Speed isn't what wins you championships its how you play defense as a team and your ability to contain/control the puck to apply pressure.

Sure speed can help in certain situations like if your pressing your defense to be more offensive and thay have the ability to get back and position themselves. But speed can also cause your team to make mistakes and we've seen it countless times, a player will rush down the ice force a turnover and you get burned.

Raddysh fits this teams needs to a T. The only risk is that he hasn’t done it before and he’s 30. But, if he gets an AAV around $8 million I think that’s good value. $10 million a year would be too much.
Actually Raddysh has never been a #1 besides when Hedman was out lastyear, and his stats were inflated because of Kucherov...im not keen on spending more money on a #2-#3 defseman when we already have Rielly....Raddysh would end up being our highest paid D and that's not a good look.

Carlson has been a #1 Defenseman his whole career, his TOI has been consistent and his quality of play/points rank in the top 15. He would also be a rental for 1-2 years for around the same cap hit as Rielly, this helps if Matthew's decides to walk and we have to rebuild, not to mention there's some solid FA in the next two years that we could potentially sign(Makar & Hughes) just to name a few.

🤣🤣please do yourself a favor and check his TOI, he's also 30 with only 3-seasons in the NHL.

If your thinking replacing him with Rielly is the best option we have at being a contender i dont know what to tell you.

Also if Tampa Bay isn't considering re-signing him its a hard pass, he's probably the most overrated player in FA and whoever signs him will be strapped on capspace on there back end x4-6 years.

If were not rebuilding we need to add.

Recent moves-
McKenna- in - Marner- out
Andrae- in - Benoit - out
Hildeby/Ersson- in - Woll - out

Areas we can get better

Stolarz- out - Akhtyamov- in
Jarnkrok- out
Lorentz- out
Robertson- out
Myers- out - Danford or Villeneuve- in

Roster-
Matthews
Tavares
Knies(replacement)
Cowan
Nylander
Joshua
Maccelli
McKenna
Domi(LTIR)

Rielly
Tanev
Andrae
McCabe
Ekman-Larsson
Danford or Villeneuve

Akhtyamov
Hildeby + Ersson

We need to add:
4-offense - #2(RW), #3(C), #4(C), #4(RW)
2-defenseman - #1, #3

Trade bait:
Lorentz
Myers
Stolarz
Quillan
Robertson
1st round 2027(Colorado)

I think the reason we are hearing so much movement on a Knies trade is because he can bring back multiple players, and example:

Knies + Joshua + Carlo

For

1st round pick(Top 10)- #1 Defenseman
Knies replacement
#2 right winger
Future draft pick

Robertson + Stolarz + Lorentz + Quillan

For

1st round pick- added depth for the future
#3 center
#4 right winger

We're left with a few open slots that we aquire in FA:

#3(defseman) Carlson?
#4(center) Lee?

McKenna-Matthews-Trade
Trade-Tavares-Nylander
Knies(replacement)-Lee-Cowan
Maccelli-Trade-Trade
Domi(LTIR)

Smits-Carlson
Rielly-McCabe
Ekmam-Larsson-Tanev
Andrae-Villeneuve or Danford

Akhtyamov
Hildeby or Ersson
