Doubt Columbus has any interest in Nylander for Werenski. That doesn’t help them at all. Are they a Nylander away from being a Cup champ? Most likely losing your Norris D equals rebuild. You want Cowan, 1sts, Danford, etc. These guys also just tasted AHL victory. That’s my opinion of what Columbus would want. A rebuild.

The 29 Toronto first rounder could be interesting as well because there's a shot Matthews and Werenski walk but they won't if they are both here

Virtually any Insider connected with Columbus says that Columbus is not interested in futures, they want people who are ready to play NHL minutes today.

They have Jet Reaves, I doubt Hildby is going there. Morgan or OEL? Possibly. Willie? Hollywood Willie is going to waive his contract to go to the BFN Columbus, OH? I dont see it. Matthews is going no where, would they want Tavares and would he waive? Probably not.

When players limit the teams down to one or two the returns are usually below the main players value. I'm sure Knies if part of any deal but you still jump at the chance and then FINALLY trade Rielly.

But honestly, I wouldn't pursue it that hard. I'd much rather go for a younger dman that falls in line more with a McKenna-based group.

Remember, we have no idea which version of Auston Matthews exists, and if it turns out to be closer to the guy from the last two years, then all of this is mostly for naught. I have no issue helping the team via free agency, as they have already with Raddysh, and likely Bob (assuming the contract isn't awful) because it's just money and they've got tons of cap space, but giving up the future for a 2-year run in terms of assets is not preferable.

Losing TLK does hurt our C depth but you have to give to get.
Matthews outlook is a fair concern and if he doesn't return to form this move won't work out as well but a case could also be made that Werenski will drastically help Matthews return to that level of scoring, even if he's not as dynamic as before. I personally think this guy is just too good and you almost never get a chance to grab this type of talent, that I would take the risk, especially considering their timelines directly lineup with McDavid's free agency.

There's always lots of risk with these types of deals but the upside is tremendous.

they are at the mercy of what other teams are willing to offer tho right? like if the teams interested are only willing to give future packages then there choice is to take one or keep the player and eventually lose him for nothing?

alot of Ducks fans on here were saying that because they just made the playoffs they wouldn't be interested in future packages for McTavish and Zellweger, and that they would want to use them to improve the team now, which made perfect sense but yet they decided to take futures packages, maybe because that's the only deals they could make.

Yeah that’s a no for me. Colorado 27 is in play. That’s the end. At least with Matthews/McKenna/Knies/JT/Nylander/Raddysh/Werenski, our next 2 years owing Boston and Philly should be non lottery picks. That way we have ours back in 29 depending on what happens. That is smart business.
