I'm pretty sure when Hiller was here, he split the talent on the PP

Besides, the top 4 would be deadly with both Defensive/Offensive contributions

Werenski-Tanev
McCabe- Raddysh
This is probably the best option, but I worry about depth if we're losing Knies + in the Werenski deal

I just turned on the radio - Dreger said something about Knies not be included in a Weresnki trade?! Did I hear right? Can anyone confirm?!
I don’t know about that but it makes sense to me.
You either get Knies as the primary of the deal, or prospects (which might include Cowan) but not both IMO.
Foundation:
McKenna - Matthews - Need RW
Knies - JT - Nylander

Werenski - RD
McCabe - Raddysh

• It never got close between Sergei Bobrovsky and the Florida Panthers, which is quite surprising. Bobrovsky was looking for a contract similar in term to the ones signed last year by Brad Marchand and Aaron Ekblad, but the Panthers didn’t approach that. Now a team in the open market, perhaps the Toronto Maple Leafs, could possibly get him for a three- or four-year deal if the AAV is sufficient.
• DJ Smith has become the highest paid assistant coach in NHL history, cracking the $1 million mark. It came down to Toronto and Edmonton and there's a sense Jim Hiller was pushing for him to join the Leafs' staff. But in the end, they wouldn't match Edmonton's money. With Paul Coffey leaving Edmonton, any chance Toronto would have interest in bringing him behind the bench?

Considering that Werenski only has 2 years remaining on his contract and cannot extend until next summer, I think Chayka should hold firm on not including Knies in the package.

Not including McKenna, Cowan is our best prospect and he's NHL ready. Danford is our top defensive prospect and he's close to NHL ready. Add Robertson and the 2027 1st and call it a day.

I think that package is still better than what TB can offer.

What a GM says and what they do doesn't always align. It's very likely they have to pivot / change their minds, it's also likely they can make other trades.
Seems like it's just an unnecessary step when you can just get Knies, Moser, Nikishin or York , etc., straight from the deal.

I don't see Chayka trading this teams future. Theres no chance werenski is coming. If it was trevling, I could see him offering a bunch of 1st round picks, Cowen, Danford, Akhtyamov, and maybe a 2nd rounder too. Fortunately those days are over.
