On trade packages for Werenksi: Toronto has a very high asking price for Knies. If that's their position, why would they suddenly change in their valuation of Knies and add multiple picks and prospects for Werenski. Wouldn't their position be Knies himself is more than fair value for Werenksi?

After all, they are only competing against one other team.

He said the package they are currently discussing does not include Knies, but does not mean if we do acquire him that Knies 100% would not be included. At this point in time, he is not part of the package being discussed which is VERY interesting 👀
Man, it must be nice throwing bull sh..it on the radio/TV/internet all day long and getting paid doing so 😤

While Tampa's package is probably some kind of underwhelming combination of Moser + Geekie + 1st + O'Reilly... If Toronto's package doesn't include Knies, it would have to be an even more underwhelming Cowan + Danford or Andrae + Goalie or TLK + 1st... I hope I'm dead wrong, but I don't see a world in which this gets done without Knies as the centerpiece. If Toronto is intent on taking Knies, would Colimbus take...

To Toronto
Zack Werenski

To Columbus
Eastan Cowan
Ben Danford OR Emil Andrae
Dennis Hildeby OR Tinus Luc-Koblar
2027 1st Round Pick
2027 2nd Round Pick

Admittedly that package has some high upside futures and an NHL ready Cowan + Hildeby, but it still seems underwhelming for a Norris winner.

Reminds me, just when you think we might actually have a shot at Ohtani, we did not. Hoping this is different but not holding my breath. Chayka is definitely cooking though so who know what he does. Hopefully team adds some serious speed.

I think this is a bit different than the Ohtani stuff.

What else do the Leafs have to offer? Man if they could turn Styles into Zack I’d be over the moon.
Not sure why the Blue Jackets would even consider the deal. You're better off losing him in two years if thats the case.

Cowan, Danford, Tinus-Luc Koblar, 2027 COL 1st ?

What would the Leafs offer without Knies? CLB has said they don't want a strictly future package? Unfortunately this would likely mean Cowan is gone.

Cowan + 27 1st (COL), 27 2nd (CLB), 29 1st (TOR) +++?

Mix in with:

Rielly (they may see him as a "fresh start" candidate.)
OEL
Robertson
Hlideby
Akhtyamov
Danford
Koblar

Knies is not close to ZW, a Norris winning dman who plays 28 minutes per game and in all situations.

I think Cowan has a lot more value than people realize. I'd think Cowan is the center piece. Toronto has all the leverage right now.
If Cowan’s part of the deal the extras attached will kill the future of the team imo, better to lose on guy plus a small add if need be than to once again empty the cupboards for one player.

If he ends up in Tampa then its clear Werenski only had the one team on his list becasue asset wise the leafs have much better potential offers.

7x3 for Bob wouldn't be the worst, the AAV is high.. but it's all about the term for me....

Wernenski
Bob
Marchment or Avidsson
Jenner

would be a homerun for Chayaka
