Rielly 4 teams in the west? Do we know which ones?

Also Reilly suffered under Berube. He's not perfect. But I don't think he is terrivibek or what he was the last 2 years.

McCabe. Tanev
Oel. Raddysh
Reilly. Carlo

Isn't terrible at all.

Pretty wild week so far with Tkachuk, Eklund, Byram, and Kyrou all moving. Reminds me of the old NHL where teams had more flexibility to move.

Personally I don't see a deal with Buffalo happening. 4OA + signed Tuch + Crevier still does not get Knies IMO. Does 4OA + McLeod + Crevier + signed Tuch get Knies? Not sure. I can't see Buffalo moving on from any of their other D.

Only got confirmation that Rielly prefers the West if a trade materializes. And that Carlos name is out there. Seems likely both are gone... When that happens who knows.

Right now we have the Bobrovsky strong rumours and punting 2 Ds out.
I'm down with moving the D, but really not a fan of the Bobrovsky rumours.

I'd guess there's a greater than 50% chance he's permanently declined to a below average starter at best.

We don't know. Dreger said that he's open to adding more teams if a scenario makes sense.

I'm gonna assume it's Californian teams + Vegas. Maybe Colorado and Minny are in there.

Rielly can’t play and that’s why Leafs are trying to move him. Add the fact he has a NMC so the few teams he’s interested in are either giving back a similar player type player or a mid range pick.
He’s not in his 20s or on the open market.

Even with the current trade frenzy, I feel we are overstating Reilly’s value, he’s been dreadful for a couple years now. Let’s hope a sucker emerges.

really depends on if a team thinks there's still a player there (and there may be). But the market right now is certainly helping the situation.

That Byram trade is going to create a lot of unrealistic expectations  It'll be an interesting rest of the week.

Why would they trade him if he somehow got better than he was two years.

Three days ago the market rumors were a swap between Toronto and Edmonton for two player needing a change of scenery.
Now his value is first round picks to highest tax market in the country.

What changed?

The market.

Byram's scouting report is essentially a poor mans Rielly

Well for starters I think generally we've underestimated the effect that the weak free agent class combined with substantially rising cap would have on teams' willingness to be aggressive. Morgan's $7.5M isn't such a handcuff when the cap is rising 15-20% over the next ~3 years. There's very few top-4 options available this free agency window, so you see trade premium taking effect as teams pivot to valuing players already under contract as a way to improve their team.

Rielly isn't going to get 1st round picks. But he's not a cap dump either.

Isn't it just assuming and going with what the market dictates? Three days ago Byram was not being traded for that kind of package, so I think right now there's a lot of "Why not us?" "Well maaaaybe..." type returns for their own versions of Byram.

I don't disagree that I don't think Riellys value is that great but I could see a scenario where they get a lot more than what people think, especially from the crowd that thinks he's not good.

Regarding Rielly - keep in mind with the rising cap, fewer teams are going to actually be at the cap ceiling, and actual dollars is going to be more important for like half the teams.

Rielly is only paid $6M/year going forward, not $7.5M. That makes him more attractive than his caphit suggests.

This is a good point. Everyone suffered under Berube with no results to show for it.

Expectations are, or the hope is at least, that Matthews will return to some semblance of what he used to be. I guess that could be the hope for Rielly too... but is it too late for him? Is it worth the risk if you can get some decent assets in return? You will never win a Matthews trade, you could at least come out even in a Rielly trade.

I assumed LA, SJ, ANA and VEG were the teams on his list. But they could as easily be WPG, CGY, EDM and VAN lol

His cap hit will be considered pretty mild in a year or two. Some guys will be making double what he makes.

The Sharks need to spend 20M to reach the cap floor

Yeah, MJ was just on the radio and said he thinks Rielly gets a 4th or 3rd at best. Like you said, let's hope a sucker emerges.

MJ also thinks that Carlo is being sent out to make room for Danford.

I’d really rather they exercise patience with Danford. Is a year with the Marlies an option or would he have to go back to Junior as an over-ager?

They’re not the same situation though. Rielly is 32, a declining asset, had a full NMC, and four years left.
He has a much smaller market.

Bless them if they get a big return.
