Pretty sure I'd read it was the Rielly camp that wanted to wait until after free agency to open discussions

Why do you think we need D? The defense was very solid last year and overall the team was giving up less chances. Our issue was scoring. We've lost our depth scoring with the losses of Kadri, Kapanen and Johnsson from the 3rd line.Look up all Chara, Marleau and Thornton have done. And tell me that man is not the gemiest of gems.
Plus we need D not forwards, he would already be better positioned to succeed on a good leash than the others.

“Nothing to this point,” Dubas said, referring to talking to Rielly about a new contract. “Our focus has been on the expansion draft and the draft itself and on free agency.
“Once we see what the market bears, we’ll have a better sample size to open discussions with Morgan.”

Don't get the waiting thing.... at all
Kadri, Kapanen and Johnsson have been gone for years my dude. And depth scoring becomes a meaningless argument when in the playoffs our depth scoring (Kerfoot) produced more than Matthew's and Galchenyuk had the same amount of points in one less game than Marner did.
Everything we do is meaningless if the big boys don't show up to play, as much as I'd love to improve every part of the team I'd rather shore up the D than get more scoring depth in hope the D helps us against getting scored on and the boys finally show up to play.
Bogosian is gone so already we don't have the same back end as we did last year and Chara can be that mean mugging low minute utilized in certain positions player.
Mikheyev hurt his wrist so I'm REALLY hoping this offseason some rehab will have him back to contributing offensively a bit because other than that his game is solid, we already signed Bunting who i think will surprise many people and Ritchie, and Kase, we signed our depth forwards.
We need D.
My thoughts anyways.
Expansion draft and 3 picks at the draft should take an hour, and he doesn't have time to deal with his #1dman. LOL.
IF you are Reilly, you would wait too, right?July 24th

If Chara can't lit a fire under these boys, I think it is time to move on from them. Not sure how much gas Chara has left in the tank but he'd be perfect dman for this team if he has some left. Might be able to teach some of our guys how play nasty.
WEll, he is still 6'9 in front of any goalies during PP, lol.Nothing I've seen of Chara the past 2 seasons has led me to believe he has anything left to offer. He needs to hang them up.
Pretty misleading. The link goes nowhere and there's no mention of interest. Strome is a solid player and any team should have some form of interest in him. Seems rather dumb for the Hawks to trade him anyway.
Clickbait junk.
Chicago needs to move some cap, and has plenty of strength at C at the moment. Moving the $3 million, for a 2nd rounder, or mid level prospect, would be a win for them right now.
They've got Toews, Johnson, Dach, and young guys Borgstrom, Kurashev and Barratt all at C.
They just want to be rid of the cap space.

We also don't have cap space.
But I believe Chicago is going to dip into LTIR. They don't have to shed ~3M salary as far as I know based on some projections.
You'd have to assume, acquiring Strome, means moving a body out from our roster... so the cap space isn't an issue for us really.
The question being, can Strome be an effective 3C, or can you adjust the lineup to have three decent forward lines?
In this example, Rielly was traded (to NYR for Miller and Schneider). I don't think people would complain about depth after that.
Ritchie Matthews Nylander
Kerfoot Tavares Mikeyev
Roberston Strome Marner
If it's not an issue for us, it's not an issue for them though? They have other players to move out too.
This is Toronto you really don't think there would be a leak?who says he isnt talking to rielly? also, he has already stated that he doesnt want to be in this position again and will move him if rielly isnt re-signed in august.
Michael Russo thinks Kaprizov will end up signing a 5 year 9ish mil deal wit the wild, but negotiations aren't close to finishing yet.
