Did anyone suggest that?

It'd probably take a combination of a 1st/Robertson/Sandin/Liljegren/Amirov, and then a cap dump like Kerfoot. I'd do it but not sure Dubas would.
I don't like kerfoot but he isn't a cap dump. Maybe a cap neutralizer in this proposed deal but if dubas wanted to move him we surely could get a 3rd or 4th at the minimum

Trading for kaprizov though doesn't make much sense unless it's Kap+ for Marner or Nylander straight for Kaprizov

Dealing those ELC guys out probably isn't the best course of action to take when the team might potentially be retooling/rebuilding in a few years. I'd rather move one of MM or WN to get kaprizov and keep Amirov/Robertson+ the d-men

I'm a Kaprizov fan, but I think your overestimating what his value is. The guy has just 62 career NHL games.

Everytime I watched that kid play he stood out to me, he drives play like our elite guys up front

He may have only played 62 games but if I could trade Marner for him straight up and save 3-4M on the cap I'm doing that every day of the week

Yeah I didn't mean cap dump exactly, but it seems like you got me :)

I dunno, if you could get Kaprizov at like $4M (using the $8M with 50% retained which isn't likely) for a 1st and a prospect or whatever, I think you do it. A top 6 of Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares and Kaprizov is absolutely filthy.

Wasn't aware that it was 50%. Would do Kaprizov at 4M for Robertson + Sandin + 2022 1st + kerfoot

Yup I’d do that move too. Gives us money to improve the lineup. Maybe he wants to play in a big market like TO and would take a decent contract long term. Who knows but probably a pipe dream.

It appears that he turned down a $9 million AAV over 8 years per the main board and is gunning for $10 million or more, and leveraging a KHL escape as well, so he's not necessarily the nice young player we can save some money on vs Marner.

But he's a dynamite player and I can honestly say he's the only reason I've ever intentionally watched a Wild game.

Holy Crap. That’s a big ask on his part.

As weird as it is, he's actually two months older than Marner and not as good of a player imo. More exciting? absolutely! better talent? no.

$10M for Kaprizov would be crazy.

I wonder if he'd be more inclined to sign something non crazy if he was in a large international city like Toronto

I'd be iffy on 9M but 8M-8 and I'd jump at a chance to trade Marner for him

At his age with his ability contract length is our friend

I doubt it would ever happen - but I would pay good money to see Marner’s face after Dubie tells him he’s been dealt to Minnesota. ….and his stupid dad too.

I mean, not really. Dude's in his prime now at 24 years old. He signs a 6 year deal that takes him to 30, where we all know he isn't likely to sign another 7 or 8 year 9+ MM deal at that age. So this is "it" as far as contracts go. I for one think he and all players should absolutely go after it. I'd expect MIN to show him 10M on a 3-4 year deal. Or, they trade him.

Where’s that kaprizov poster…..
He’s normally here chiming in seconds after the players name is mentioned.

Impression I get from Kaprizov is that he either doesn't want to commit to being in Minnesota and has another city in mind, maybe New York or something.

Alternatively, maybe he doesn't want to commit unless he sees a path towards a cup.

I get the impression that he wants a three year deal, that walks him to UFA, so that he can really cash in then, and/or choose where he plays.. like you say, maybe New York, or anywhere but Minny. He wants to really prove he is worth the $.

I would simply sign him for the most term I could get right now and entertain offers. The primary piece for Jack Eichel? It lets you keep Rossi and Boldy which could be 2 pieces that want to actually stay in Minnesota, or at the least, not threaten to return to the KHL.

I would never want to be held hostage by my player, you wanna be here or you don't.

That's fair. Id be pretty seriously questioning the management in Minnesota if I was a player there.

Those Suter and Parise buyouts are baffling imo. They get a brief savings this year, and then get hammered to the tune of 12-14 mil of dead cap space per year for the next 3 or 4. Parise and Suter barely made more than that.

If they replace them with when league min contracts, which they'll have to at least, they've actually spent more in some years to just not have Parise and Suter.

The Suter one caught me off guard but they said it was so they wouldn't lose Dumba...which alright...I guess?

Parise one, I can kinda get, not worth the $$ at all anymore.

Buyouts should be mostly gone by the time Boldy / Rossi ELC are up but yea Minnesota has been weird.

plus the dude is competitive. Did you hear the story on spittin chicklets re: practice haha?

Gotta love some of Leaf nation fans:

Before game 1 vs Montreal: Montreal sucks, they are only in the playoffs due to COVID, we will destroy them.

After losing to the Habs: Habs won't even make the playoffs next year.

This week: Leafs lost to a Stanley Cup finalist. LOL.
