Early rumblings is that they are targetting the Grubauer contract as a base. 6 x 5.9M per.

Kuemper is older so that makes it trickier, but if you can get him at like 4-5 x 6M, I think it would be a big get. One of the best consistent goaltenders over the last 3-5 years.

Yeah, if Kuemper costs 5 x 6, I'd rather just give Campbell the 4 x 4 he was apparently looking for. I think they're both similar quality goalies with similar durability issues.

I'd still take Gibson over either though. Or just help Lou out with his cap issues and grab Varlamov.

This always made the most sense to do. A clear starter and get a young-ish cheap goaltender to compete for the backup.

They will very likely still target a cheap goaltender that can be the 3rd stringer though.

They should target someone who can be a legit backup.

Kallgren/Woll should be fighting for the 3rd stringer role next year, and then maybe a backup job the year after.

Even Eric Comrie would be a good target if they want to go cheap. Otherwise, one year of Holtby should be fairly attractive if they get a guy who maybe can't play a huge number of games.

I would put a hard line on it being a one year goalie. I have a lot of faith in Woll being able to take over the role next year.

I think Kallgren is just organizational depth and then he will just leave as a Group 6 UFA the year after.

While I don't find 6M x 4 or 5 years to be ideal, I suppose it isn't the worst either. I wonder if the backup spot then goes to either of Kallgren or Woll, or if the hope is that one of the lesser UFA options ultimately becomes squeezed out of a better opportunity/payday elsewhere?

Wouldn't you say Campbell and Kuemper are the in the same tier? I don't see it as a big upgrade, IMO.
I think with Keumper playing 315 games and winning a Stanley Cup and Campbell playing only 140 and struggling this year after a good start, it puts Kuemper in a teir ahead of Campbell.

I think after Campbell's struggles for 2/3 months this year, Toronto lost the confidence in signing him long term, seeing how he hasn't been a starter, unlike other options out there.

While I do think/hope Kuemper is likely to be enough of an upgrade on Campbell, I'll still be curious to see how much the two contracts differ in AAV and term once signed.

If Campbell was what they wanted you'd think it would be done. They're going after someone else forsure.

I think Husso on a longer term for lower cap hit... not saying its what I would of preferred but maybe what they're thinking.

Seems like Kuemper is this main target and talks with Gibson and Varlamov are in the mix. Don’t think Varly is a full time starter now though.

If we can load up our forwards, maybe we can win with a cheaper but reliable tandem. Big maybe but might be what dubas is thinking. Ferraro suggested this strategy two weeks ago.

Don't think we're good enough to go that way. Colorado could do it (having a subpar goalie) but they have a Cale Makar on the backend who could overwhelm the opposition

We have a Morgan Rielly lmao. Time to find a top end 1G

At this point, my hope is that Calgary and/or Winnipeg decide to rebuild, and Hellebuyck or Markstrom become available, and we trade for them.

Campbell is going to Edmonton, Husso to New Jersey, or vice versa. We're not giving Kuemper 6x6 and doubt he wants to come here anyway. Lou said Varlamov isn't moving. Georgiev, DeSmith gone. Hellebucyk is a total pipe dream.

What are all these options?

Contrary to your assertion here, we actually have no idea where any of Campbell, Keumper or Husso are going yet.

I don’t think the Campbell ask is 4x4. Everything I’ve heard has suggested his ask starts with a 5
