I wouldn't think Mittelstadt is untouchable. Sabres fans seem pretty open to trading him. Could be an excellent buy low, low risk trade.

Not untouchable, but not someone they need to move either. Krebs hasn't figured things out yet. Jost is Jost. The rest of their center prospects are a couple of years away.

I recall last year some of their fans saying untouchable as he was coming around then. Wasn’t sure if that was still the case.

2 years ago, when Granato was made coach, Mitts came to life and was untouchable (fair judgement at the time).
Last year he was injured the first half of the season and never found the same game he had the end of the last season. Tage broke out last year in the lineup spot Mitts could have had.

I don't know. One of them is having a pretty decent start to an 18 year old AHL season.

Middlestat, at this point, is a very disappointing high draft pick. He’s better than Jost and those like him but not by much. To call him untouchable is ridiculous.
This is coming from a guy who really liked him when he was drafted.
I was probably biased because he played a bit, or at least practiced a bit with one of my sons.

Mitts was a very good prospect (outside of not being able to do a pullup? at the combine) when he was drafted 8oa. He was amazing to watch in the USHL games I saw his draft season. I do think BUF is partially to blame for his development in how they managed his rookie year.

The only reason I have interest in him now is because MN only has the bad choice options of Hartman, Freddy G, and Steel as the centers for Boldy and Kap lines. Mitts isn't a great option by any means, but I do see him as a better bad choice option than the others.

I wonder if taking a run at Tank as a Zucc replacement is worthwhile. He’s looked good after that last injury healed. Maybe he signs 6x7. Kap , Maret Tank 1st line. Then maybe in a few years Yurov pushes tank down the lineup.

I have been a proponent of bringing Casey home, one of those players whose skills take time to develop at the NHL level. Connor McMichael would be my other wishlist center, shot first guy that plays with skill but not afraid of the dirty areas and Washington has not had room to play him.

Why a Zucc replacement?
He'll probably sign two more years, then both Zucc and Kaprizov will be UFA in 2026...

I like Zucc , I wish he was 29 instead of 36. I’d be open to him signing another 2 years but at a lot less money and a reduced role. He’s being overused now and his age is showing a bit. It’s not going to get better.

Zuccarello will be what 37 or 38 when he signs a new contract.? That’s getting up there. I’d be all for signing him if his play is anything like it is now, but two years from now is a long way away we’ve seen this movie many times. Players drop off in their late 30s no matter how talented they are.
Boldy will be Kaps winger in two years anyways.

There's actually a chance he's still 35, he can re-sign a couple of years after 1 July next year.

I don't want anything to do with re-signing the Zuccarello we've seen since game 6, let alone the worse version as he gets older. The ultimate passenger.

2x2.5 just to keep Kap happy with his daddy might be ok

There are a ton of excellent UFAs this upcoming offseason:
-Pastrnak
-Larkin
-Pavelski
-Horvat
-Kuzmenko
-Tarasenko
-Kane
etc

I'd love for the Wild to take a shot at Larkin or Kuzmenko.

I’d think there is no way pasta or Larkin get ti FA.

Maybe if there's a clause included that says he can't play with Kaprizov 5v5.
You’d have to show Deano the door to make that guarantee

Bertuzzi, Barbashev, Domi, Zacha, Bunting, etc are some interesting mid range UFAs as well. I'd love to have Bertuzzi
