He didn’t look out of place, but I truthfully think Khus would’ve performed similarly in his spot.
I was all for giving Khus more rope but the two don’t seem that similar to me. Yurov has much softer hands and found good space where he had opportunities to finish that slot of times didn’t materialize. Khus is more of a speed guy that moves north and south and needs others to facilitate. Granted both are just kids and I’m no expert

They’re definitely not similar in playstyles, but I think they could’ve plopped Khus into Yurov’s spot last year and had similar or better results. Which is why it would’ve been nice if they could’ve been pushing one another and battling each other for those opportunities.

Regardless, I just wasn’t very impressed by Yurov last year. It’s his first year so it’s hard to make many assumptions, but he was just not noticeable to me. That’s not a bad thing for a rookie, but there was nothing in his game that really made me think he had Top 6 potential. He spent 40% of his 5v5 ice time with 1 of or both of Kaprizov & Boldy, but his offensive numbers were pretty mediocre. Compared to Rossi’s 1st full season, I just felt like Yurov was a bit disappointing & underwhelming from someone who I’d hope could immediately become our Rossi replacement.

Yurov needs to add strength, I’m sure that’s his mission this off season. He had a decent season for year 1. They always talk about that 200 game mark for players to break out, I hope that last season paired with his KHL experience gets him to that breakout this year. Good skater, good shot, I’ll be bummed if we trade him because I think he’s a great candidate to take a big step here.

Wonder what it’d take. Would love taking a shot on him at wing over someone like Zucc or Jaden frickin Schwartz
