I dont dislike McCarron and would welcome him back... at 2-3m with no trade protection. If 5m is what hes set on, see ya Carrot!

It depends on the term. If it’s a 1yr deal I’d be okay with it.
This has a lot to do with the UFA class this year. I also don’t see MN winning any bidding wars this offseason to improve the team.

Any longer term and I’m not liking it. MN needs some cap flexibility after next season.

Why? It's not your money. 2 million a year is a pylon on an NBA team or 5th round pick in the NFL. McCarron is worth $5 million a year. Salaray cap is rising rather be ahead then behind

I'm just going to say no he isn't, kind of like moose and Trenin are not worth their cap, even with a rising cap.

We are already stuck with all these overpaid bottom six and bottom paring types with their no trade clauses. Might as well add another. How many “locker room guys” does one team need? Ffs. Problem is that BG gave up a second for him and can’t let it go. After getting duped on Nyquist, he wants to show people he got more value this time. McCarron is worth 2-2.5 at most. Even in this rising cap, 5+ is lunacy

3X5 or 4X4 for Big Sexy would be a bargain

As others have said , I didn’t mind his game for what he is. But the fact remains given out current roster construction we have too many guys who are supposed to be filling the same role. You can’t have 3-4 overpaid 4th liners on a team. That is piss poor management. No matter how Hynes utilized Carrot or Foligno or Trenin they are 4th liners.

Only ok with McCarron if we move someone like Trenin or Foligno out. We need to invest in some depth scoring. We need guys that can skate.

It’s the fan I’m a team of and I’m tired of that team being unable to afford scoring depth because they blow all their cap on less important positions.

I want Guerin to have a conversation with Spurgeon this offseason and get him signed to an extension. If he won’t take $3M or less, then I would definitely do this.

I feel like this is the proper way to go about it. Spurgeon’s cap is only a problem for this season, but if he’s willing to re-sign for cheap, then he’s a positive benefit to this team imo. There’s plenty of other ways they can open up cap this offseason and we’re not going to find a better defenseman at $3M next offseason. I feel like he’s very likely to take a team friendly deal. Not sure if Guerin thinks this way though and might believe Spurgeon should get what’s “fair”.

Might still be able to bring in one of those guys at the TDL with retention.

I’m doubting Tuch would want to come here, but I’d be open to him at a cap up to $10M. This team will have cap space the next two offseasons for additional moves. Guerin just needs to find a way to move Foligno, Trenin, and Middleton. Make up for the lack of physicality by signing players that are 1/3rd their price, which is what they should be making for their roles.
Spurgeon is cooked zbaaa bye!

We're at the point where Guerin has handed out so many bad contracts that some people have been gaslit into thinking 4x4 for McCarron would be a bargain :/
McCarron at 8.5 is better than Kaprizov at a stupid f***ing 17!

Thinking about it I don't think Stramel is on the trade block. I think it's more likely Yurov is traded. Stramel could have been a free agent after August but signed with Minnesota instead. Trading him would piss off his agent

I’m also still enamored with the idea of Pinto on this team. So much like Ek and I think you can win with two Eks. I think Pinto has some untapped offense in him too.
You mean Shane 'allergic to contact' Pinto? If you saw some early season highlights, forget it. That player ceased to exist after december injury and when big contract went to his head. No effort, no heart. That's when I started to admire Ek's game

Wonder how much Mantha is gonna cost in FA. He had a pretty impressive year with the Penguins, but he’s also a guy that’s missed a lot of games in his career. He’s been in the league for 11 years now and he hasn’t even hit 600GP yet.

The logical move would be to go short-term with him given his injury history, but maybe you gamble on giving him term at a smaller cap hit.

His year last year was the best he's ever had, by a long shot. The previous two years he play a combined 31 games, and scored 17 points in them. Buying high on him would be a mistake. He's been a disappointment for virtually his entire career.

His pace over all of his career has been about 25 goals and 25 assists. If he could stay healthy, he'd be a guy who would probably have 500+ points right now. Instead he's sitting at 367. That's definitely a red flag.

Anyone know what his injury history has been? Is it numerous things, a single nagging thing that's been fixed, or a single nagging thing that he played through all last year?

Looking at his injury history, he seems very versatile in the ways he gets injured. Missed almost a full season to ACL surgery, half a season to shoulder surgery, 20 games to lung injury even.

Ok. A lung injury? Wow. So the guy just gets injured more than normal, but in diverse ways. Whenever that happens, I find myself wondering if there's some underlying condition the player has that just never gets diagnosed. A few of them you might call bad luck, but if it happens nearly every year for your entire career?

Yeah, I'd like his upside, but I think I'd stay away.

Versatility is good, right?

Mantha seems to be the Zach Bogosian of forwards. I would imagine that he will get a relative haul in FA because of the season he had. Buying high(4 x 5-6M) on a guy like him seems really dumb. He's not the defensive player that Trenin is, and is injury prone, but is huge, and a way better offensive player. If we could move Trenin and sign Mantha then it might help the team? Not sure that he has the skill to play with Kaprizov or Boldy, so he might just not be a fit for the team, nvm the injury worry.

I suggested Arvidsson as a replacement for Zuke (a small, smart, quick, cheap wing who can score and play PP) but got lambasted by 57 and chased off to Switzerland covered in tar and feathers.
Clearly, the problem last year was that we didn't have enough Swedes on the team. We need to make sure that Viking and Mojo are on the team next year, at a bare minimum, to add to our two goaltenders, Brodin, and JEE.
