Brock Nelson on this year’s team would be a huge add. I’d be afraid to sign him to term unless real team friendly.

Would like to see Guerin add another scoring forward this year near the TDL. Could be the year to trade our 1st if the player is right.
i think we should draft a 6'3"-6'6" D this summer and still trade mojo ; freddy and trenin if possible for picks at the deadline. a mean, crease clearing D would be perfect next summer

Johansson has a full no trade clause.

Gaudreau isn’t as bad as people think he is. He was hurt all of last year. I don’t mind if he stays.

Trenin is a pretty questionable signing at this point. I’ll give it a year for it to gel. Good news; he doesn’t have any trade protection! At least from what PuckPedia says.

Would anyone consider the following? I’m not saying I would but maybe

To Van - Middleton and Gaudreau

To MN - Boeser

Middleton has turned into a very useful #4 dman and is having a hell of a start. Freddy is just barely above useless to my eyes still and the fact he’s signed so long is a massive issue even at 2 million.

Our biggest weakness is needing a top 6 winger to allow us to fire marjo into the sun

Hard to say without knowing what Boeser is going to demand on the new contact.

I don't think Vancouver does it at all, as they already have Hughes and Soucy on the left side, and trading Boeser for a #3LD probably isn't the best use of his value.

If you're doing it just to get Middleton and Gaudreau off the books, and don't really care about re-signing Boeser, then as somebody who thinks more of Middleton than a lot of others around here, I'd probably be pretty hesitant.

I'm fine with taking our chances on Boeser in UFA, if we so choose.

My problem with moving Middleton right now is that we have no idea how long the glue is gonna hold Spurgeon together. I will be surprised if he can go the next few months without incident. He's just too big of a question mark, and the thought of the defense without him AND a well playing Middleton.....yikes!

I don’t love the Boeser fit. I’d prefer we target a DFD or someone with more of a motor. Speed kills in this league and our core guys lean a bit slow up front.

The thought occurred to me in response to Van fans asking for a top 4 dman with size and ability to move the puck. I think Middleton with his current play fits that bill. I’m not super attached to him as a player but admittedly he’s been great this year and showing good skills and instincts.

I also put this out there with the idea that Brock wants to be here and an extension is possible and fits for us. From what I’ve seen of him in the last 1.5 years I’ve liked.

He can fill the net though

I think a lot of Chisholm to the point where I think he could do everything Spurgeon can currently do in his dilapidated state. The hole that Middleton leaves is size and crease clearing ability.

Middleton has either NTC or MMC with his four year contract extension, so not happening

Technically, he does not have trade protection this season based on PuckPedia. NMC next year and then three years with a 15 team NTC.
Russo has mentioned something dating back to the Hartman's extension last year that NTC / NMC are radioactive now. I apologize for using the wrong wording, but basically, he's saying a new rule in allows that to be done as soon as an extension is done.

I think it has to be agreed upon in the contract for it to be retroactive. Could be wrong though.

Yes, if you extend with a year left your movement protection can be retroactive to your current contract and what's remaining, which can only be a year

Does it automatically apply or does it need to be negotiated into the contract? I haven't seen anything that says Middleton has trade protection this year.

I don't believe it's automatic. It's negotiated.

It happened to Brodin on his most recent extension, it's noted as NMC appended as part of contract extension. See here
