Bunting is being mentioned in this thread quite a bit.

I don't see Bunting as being tough. He's not a bad player, but his antics are his bread and butter.

I hope Toronto brings in real tough and not a embellishing yappy dog.

Dubas has assembled a team with top-end elite talent and skill (which every team/GM in the league covets). But what Dubas lacked was finding those support pieces you need that can give this team some serious swagger and balls

How many times does it need explaining? Most of us who want to see the team be more robust, aren't talking about having 5 face punches in the lineup, he'll not even one really.

We're talking about a team who won't just turn the other cheek, who'll initiate and not solely respond, but will respond when required, who'll come to the aid of a teammate when needed and not just stand there when a teammate is getting double teamed

A team with players who'll choose to make plays when they're tough plays to make, not just duck/cover, bail and give up possession.

A team that will make it their business when a young rookie gets bulldogged and slammed into the ice, and send a very clear message as many times as it takes.

When a team is willing to respond, the Sam Bennetts will still take their shot because that's who they are. You just can't let them walk away scott free, someone on the opposition has to pay double and possibly more.

The Sam Bennetts will take A shot...and probably leave it at that if he gets pounded for doing so compared to now where it's a group of gentlemanly players trying to win the game with just skill.

Why wasn't anyone thinking of the consequences of dumping that said guy? Majority of you thought he was the problem. Turns out, he wasn't. Now you want guys like him again? That sentence does not compute...he inherited the top end talent and skill. Who else on this team right now is top end talent with skill that Dubas brought in?

Toughness is important but the team didn't fail due to lack of toughness as much as it was a lack of their best players rising to the occasion. Until that changes nothing will change. Period.

Seems like a large portion on here has been trumpeting analytics, skill players, regardless of size. Anyone mention adding toughness has been met with ridicule. The way I look at it this franchise has wasted two seasons. Changes should have been made after the loss to Montreal. Took a long time for changes to be made in Detroit and Toronto seems to be taking even longer.

- Pickup a big top 4 d-man either through free agency (Gavrikov) or trade (someone even more skilled/tougher)
- add a very gritty, big D-man in the bottom pairing who has upside

Also expect that his winger replacements for both Bunts and whatshisname will be bigger bodies with some amount of physicality.

That right THERE already changes the team DRAMATICALLY in terms of physicality . . . while also hoping to bring back O'Reilly.

Kadri was suspended again after being traded by Toronto and barely missed in the Colorado Cup run when he dove into the keeper.

And then he signs in Calgary and reverts back to the 60 point player he always was.
With a good cap increase his contract might be okay as he ages through his 30's.
Leafs GM signed him until age 38 at 7mm per.
Be like extending PPG Tavares next year for 4 years at 7mm.

No i think they are gonna sign Matty and pay him too much .. I hope i am wrong but everything shanny has done up to now points to an overpayment again .. and when i say overpayment for da Leafs it is pimple on ur *ss $$$ .. but relative to CAP his AAV will be ridiculous to build a winning team around here .. da richest team always has troubles in socialist middling schemes like da CBA .. that said i think it would be very difficult for anyone to negotiate given our wealth of riches

It's a two-way street. Kadri got himself suspended twice in TOR and once in COL before he grew up. I didn't like what TOR ended up getting for him in a trade, but there was a good reason to trade him. It has nothing to do with PC.

Edit - actually Kadri got suspended a whole lot more than I reported.
