This is an interesting point. Under Tortorella, we never really had a top 6 and a bottom 6. It was more like a top line, a middle 6, and a bottom line. Under a new coach, our team will change. It's going to take an adjustment in how we think of players in their roles.

It sounds like Boyle on the 3rd line in a Vigneault system would be hugely different than Boyle on the 3rd line in the Tortorella one.
Weren't you the one who told me Boyle's low Offensive Zone Start % was hurting the team?

The question I'd have with him would be his ability to hold people accountable. At least in his on-air persona, he LOVES everyone. I don't know if we know enough about his off-air personality to answer that.

Good point. I guess if it happens I'm sure the front office would interview/test him, or something. But with that attitude it could be an overall good. You don't throw guys under the bus but make them accountable without being a dick.

I was. But that was under Tortorella and how he managed the team and his system. Things change, my friend. I wouldn't cast judgment on a new coach's personnel decisions until I've seen the team in action. I was more riffing on that perspective of being open to what a new coach brings to the table.

"Hagelin, I don't know how they do things at the University of Michigan under the legendary Red Berenson, or in the Södertälje program, but here you'll be expected to contribute on the powerplay."

How does Richards count for anything. He was freaking terrible, and it surely wasent Torts fault.

Yea citing Richards makes no sense, Torts gave him chance after chance, pp after pp, what was he supposed to do console Richie every night at home?

Yeah, blame the coach for players not scoring. However, lets ignore everything he did over the regular season his entire tenure. :shakehead

Yes, add the fact he would have Hank in net instead of having to deal with the goalie shenanigans over in Vancouver for the last few years. Luongo has been a problem for them. If he had Hank in net those years, he probably would've won a cup.

Hope you guys realize if the coach "loses the room" that is on the PLAYERS.

They make the CHOICE to tune the coach out

Yeah, and maybe the coach is saying something asinine, or just being a POS in general?

The two aren't mutually exlcusive. Blame is on both.

That being said, if you lose Lundqvist...yea, you're not gonna be here very long.

I think he's just like that on air because he has to appear not to be biased.

Sabres fan here. There is a common misconception that Lindy Ruff is a defense coach. Sabres have been a top scoring team since the lockout.

The Sabres are 3rd in goals scored since the lockout. Only Detroit and Pittsburgh have more. They are 16th in goals allowed.

Wins? The Sabres are 7th for most wins since the lockout. He did this without top rosters. Only once can i say the Sabres were considered a top team entering a season, 2006-2007 season, won the Presidents Trophy and made it to the ECF.

Ruff would be walking into a GREAT team in NY, pieces in place. Ruff can be hard on players, but rarely do players say bad things about him. Sure, there are a couple, but he tends to have good relationships with players. Heck he lasted 15 years in one place, you have to be good with people to do that.

I want to see Ruff win a cup. I dont want to see the Rangers win one obviously, but I think Ruff would win a cup within 3 years with the Rangers.

I would say personnel is 90% of the reason for success and coaching might be 10%.

Since Torts has already won a Cup we know he can. The difference is personnel. Unless you believe he took an overdose of stupid pills.

We can argue percentages until the cows come home, but I'll just take the high road and say that in the NHL, I think coaching accounts for more than 10%. It's an absolutely critical component, and certainly can be the difference between mediocrity and excellence.

Agreed ... it's on both ... but in the end ... the players always win ... no matter what sport it is.

This. Hearing that the players wanted Torts out makes me really disappointed in our team. Especially a guy like Richards (if he was one of them), who signed a big contract here (partially because of his great relationship with Torts) and then sucked last year.

Except Pierre most definitely knows how they do things in those clubs

It seems that Buffalo and Vancouver fans, like Ranger fans, are divided about their most recent coach.

I'm one of a few here who wouldn't have a big problem with Lindy Ruff. The mustache would have to go, though.
