There are certainly a large number of Oiler fans obsessed with the Leafs, but then there seems to be a large number of Leafs fans obsessed with the Oilers. I'd absolutely love to see a Leafs v Oilers final, that would be some great entertainment, and probably great for the league as well.

Oilers made some great changes to their team at the deadline, and are tough team to beat. Boys need to be on their "A" game for this one.

Not gonna lie, me personally I pay more attention past several years what the oilers do because of their weird obsessive hate of Toronto, whereas don't care much what the flames, jets, Canucks do . Right or wrong or whatever, it is what it is. Makes the regular season more fun and entertaining.. prob for both fan bases.

I don't know about hottest team but they're playing better. 6-3-1. They also have still let in 220 goals.

They'll be much improved with Ekholm but not sure where their fans get the idea Leafs are bad defensively.

That's why a lot of their fans bug me. They can't admit Leafs are a good team and it's not debatable.

Playoff success... absolutely fair to chirp about that though.

The media narrative of the Leafs being bad defensively is basically just a meme that hasn't stopped since 2016. Doesn't matter that the Leafs defense has literally not been the issue with the team for three seasons now, and no matter what proof you show to back it up people don't wanna listen.

He started slow when he came back as well. Matthews dominated the first couple games but you could tell he was just slightly off due to missing time

He scored 1 in his first 6, then had 59 goals in 67 games lmao. What I would do for that Matthews to come back.....

The oilers have an easier path than the Leafs. The Atlantic is a nightmare.
That said the oil have improved their defense bu adding ekholm but we are still better defensively. Offense goes to the oilers.

It's also worth noting the discrepancy at 5v5 and Even Strength vs PP. Matthews scored 38 goals at 5v5, destroying the rest of the pack and being 10 ahead of the next best guy, Kyle Connor, and 44 goals at Even Strength, 8 more than Kyle Connor. Only 16 of his goals came on the PP (~27%).

McDavid this year has 28 goals at 5v5, only 3 more than Pasta, Hughes and Jared McCann (!), 4 more than Rantanen and 5 more than Point and Robertson. At Even Strength, he is actually 2nd behind Rantanen who has 33 goals while McDavid has 32. Then you look at PP goals, where the world's greatest PP merchant Draisaitl leads the way with a whopping 26 , followed by Zibanejad at 19 and McDavid at 18 (33% of his total goals).

The Oilers have a lethal PP and a lot of their players are reaping the benefits (Hyman, RNH especially), but it'll be interesting to see how it goes when the whistles get put away in the playoffs and more obstruction gets let go. We've seen one too many times how that changes things.
