Suck it Friedman.
I assume you're referring to the thread that misrepresents what Friedman what actually said about all-stars and warm weather ASG locations. He said in that same radio hit tha t Toronto was expected to get the 2024 game.

As for the rest of it, it basically boils down to this. The NHL talked to current all-starts about what could help get players to want to show up. ONE of the responses was that they liked being in Florida this time of the year. Friedman never reported that the all-stars said they only wanted to play in warm weather locations. Friedman never said that the NHL took that response to heart and was looking at the idea of limiting ASGs to warm weather locations. What he did say was that he thinks we’ll see something like a limited list of ASG Locations that includes the warm weather NHL locales along with places like Toronto, Montreal, New York, and Chicago. He does not make it clear if that’s based on insider info or he’s just speculating.

Posters have to stop believing that thread starters are being accurate in the descriptions of what reporters say on the radio.

I would also include Boston and Detroit since they are also Original 6 cities like Toronto, Montreal, New York, and Chicago.

Since the Red Wings now play at Little Caesars Arena, I'm sure they want an All Star Game because of that fact.

I went to TO all star game in the past. They do a good job. Was a great time.
I don't know if it was the case in the past or not (the last Toronto ASG was 23 years ago) but they were saying during the game today that the NHL runs the All-Star festivities. Apparently, they do work some with the club, but like the Winter Classic and other outdoor games, this is the NHL's show.

To be honest, I suspect such a list would include all the big city hockey markets. It really sounded to me like Friedman was pulling hockey markets out of his butt as he was listing them.

Personal Opinion:
I think this limited all-star location list is an agenda that Friedman is pushing. I've heard him talk about it twice. Once in the radio hit that I linked which is what the thread is about and once in the 32 Thoughts podcasts. Both times, he just says that this is something he thinks we'll see or he thinks the NHL will do. He doesn't say anything like "From what I hear from team executives," so I'm leaning towards this being his own idea that he's trying to push out there. He really seemed to be enjoying the beach and the warm weather and I suspect he'd love a warm weather work trip every winter.

They might be on to something here…

Last season Florida was awarded the Allstar game and immediately they made it out of the first round of the playoffs for the first time in in 26 years.

For next year since it's in Toronto, I'm sure TSN and Sportsnet will be happy not paying for their broadcasters, panels and insiders having to travel to another city to cover it.

In 2000 I went to the game and met pretty much every all star at the four seasons hotel beforehand. All of them stopped for pictures and autographs except 99 pretty much.

Temperature in Toronto vs. A place like Edmonton is quite drastic. Edmonton is coming out of a -30 cold snap, Vancouver and Toronto have no snow left. This is the kind of weather they don’t want
Edmonton is + 1 right now

Look at how the Centennial Classic was showcased as the NHL 100th anniversary. Despite it being played in Toronto and it also being the 100th anniversary of the Leafs at the same time, the only mention of that was when they were introduced before skating onto the ice.

In any event, it was 6 years ago. Time to get over it and move on. The way some Leafs fans hold on this crap for years is ridiculous.

I'm over what happened. I was just using that as an example how you said events like the All Star Game and outdoor games are the NHL shows.

Happy that Toronto kids can see their All Stars - I am assuming it is still a cool thing for them.

People making chirps about the warm weather, players will be ok with Toronto. Half are probably GTA kids anyways and the other half understand what it means to play hockey in Toronto

If the NHL players had a preference when it comes to Canadian cities to host an All Star Game, I'm sure they would pick Toronto before Edmonton or Winnipeg.

Oh easily. Players have been vocal about it
