Yeah Vesey looked pretty bad. I'd have to agree with most people on that. That goal he got was pure luck.

I thought it was a pretty nice play to get it past Price. The luck was how the puck came to Nylander, then Nylander set up Vesey who made the play to get it in the net. That so called good luck or bad luck happens all the time both ways, so often the refs can't get out of the way fast enough. That "luck" only came to them because the Leafs were pressing hard in the Habs zone.

I think it wasn't a strong showing for sure. But I loved the overall dynamic of what that line brought. Largely because of willy and JT. I don't expect Vesey to be a standout ever alongside those guys. But I do think he can play better than what he showed yesterday. It was promising to see him finish in the 3rd there, lucky or not, he displayed patience waiting price out. A ton of players would have fired that off on a 1T. For example, i think soup takes that on the 1T, and who knows if that goes in. He will get more chances like that playing with those 2, if he continues to bury I will accept that

Hopefully we get 4 points out of beating down the division doormat

How does the taxi squad work? Can we swap players in and out without waivers? With a back to back, I wouldn't mind seeing some players rotate.

With the Leafs looking at back to back and a 3 in 4 nights situation this weekend, Im hoping they arnt too wiped out.

On the other hand, more hockey played might mean they get their feet under them and get into sync a little more.

Who knows what Ottawa is bringing to the table this year. If Murray has a bounce back year, they could make some noise.

This is when you bring in the taxi squad except Dell .
Campbell will be getting a game or 2:

Yeah, this is when load management comes into play for our older players.

We will need fresh legs from the taxi squad at various points during the condensed schedule.

Except we can't do that, the only guy that can come out of the lineup is Barabanov, anyone else needs to go through waivers. So only way Lehtonen or Sandin get in the lineup without injury is if we go with 7D with Barabanov coming out of the lineup. At least until they try to sneak Dell through waivers.

No, you don't have to put someone on waivers to make them a healthy scratch.

Except with a 20 man roster there is no healthy scratches, if 21-23 then yes can substitute a healthy scratch. Healthy scratches are not taxi squad.
If not then waivers are required for the non ELC players.
Players that required waivers before to go to the AHL, require them now for taxi.
Ie Corey Perry required waivers.

Here's there lineup likely

That defence is trash. The big guns should be lighting it up. Not sure how Murray will do but he better be prepared for a lot of rubber.

I will say in a few years from now their offence could be pretty good though. They'll be able to score some goals but its not scary. That Stuetzle guy is going to be really good though. He was great in the world juniors. We'll all hate him soon enough.

probably going to have to waive Dell to give us the necessary flexibility.

I like having Dell aroudn but not at the cost of no player movement.

To bad Stutzle is a Sen probably only player on team curious on how he will do. Expect the Sens to be on the bottom of the division.

Considering it is 3 in 4, I think Andersen should play games 1 and 3. Meaning he'll start Friday and Campbell Saturday.

I'd like to see Lehtonen in for Holl. The hate for Bogo is intense, but he is the type of guy we need, have needed, desperately. He's not about speed, he is about bashing bodies, clearing the net front and chopping the puck into a million pieces. We have the speed and skill with the other guys when needed.

Bogosian can be the D man we need but he can't be taking multiple penalities a night, and if he does they need to be physical nasty penalities that's not what they were

I could see us sending Barabanov to the taxi squad and playing 11 forwards for a game. Would allow us to recall Lehtonen or Sandin to rotate them in. He only played 5 minutes. Probably wouldn't make sense this weekend with a b2b tho

Seems like it's a game of chicken with how long the front office waits to waive Dell while being restricted in the meantime.

Theoretically they could put BOGO 4th line LW... send Barabanov to the Taxi Squad and call up Lehtonen. BOGO and Simmonds 5-7 mins a night just to let Tkachuk know that if things get chippy there might be consequences.

Yes. You can scratch someone and bring someone off the taxi squad. That is what I'm saying.

I am speaking within the confines of the rules. I know that you need waivers to send someone to the TS. I suggested Barabanov can be sent to TS and bring one of Sandin/Lehtonen and someone like Robertson in to rotate bodies. This is all within the confines of the rules and doesn't require waiving anyone.

Also, you keep referring to non-ELC requiring waivers, which is incorrect. Anderson and Engvall are not on ELC and are also waivers exempt. Just say waiver-exempt and don't confuse things w/ ELC.

No, but our only spare on the roster is Dell and we dont have cap space to add anyone from the taxi squad and run a 22 man roster

Leafs are accruing cap space playing under the salary ceiling right now. It's likely that they're assigning Barabanov to the TS on non-game days (roster of 20, TS of 5) and putting him back on the main roster on game days. With those 2 rosters (80m and 80.9m) they're averaging an accrual of $69,000 per day (115 day regular season) on the cap ceiling, which means by roughly Monday they should have enough space to bench bogo for a game and bring in Sandin ($81.7m on that roster)

EDIT: Actually assigning Barabanov to TS brings us under 18 skaters, so unlikely they're doing that on non-game days. Also I got the math inverted on how much we're accruing. We're spending $700,000 per day but it would take ~20-25 days into the 115 day season to run w/ a 22 man roster. So, someone would indeed need to be waived if Leafs are going to cycle bodies in near the beginning of the season.

Well , you were using healthy scratch and taxi squad to be one and the same, and didn’t realize that, I was just distinguishing between the 2.

And agreed I was being simplistic in using non ELC at first, was just trying to give poster a quick answer without the details,
but on a post after that, was much more clear, giving detailed info with example.

and I understand how money is accrued, but It looks like that was directed at another poster.

You guys literally have no clue what physicality Ottawa is going to bring. Watch out for these guys they added since last year: Watson, Paquette, Gudbranson and Josh Brown. Even their 3rd OA Stutzle plays with an edge.
