Laval Rocket: Toronto Marlies vs Laval Rockets 7:00 EST

Not really.

This management thought Dach was worth the 13th overall pick.

He was easily worth it before the injury. Played very well for us his fist year to the point some posters here were projecting him to be as good as Suzuki.

Mailloux is not a smart player, he looks like someone who's going to be on Sportsnet highlights.

ReinB exposing himself way too much out there.
Gross
I knew he had a flaw somewhere

Dach was an excellent gamble back in 2022. He has a lot of the attributes you look for in a young center, the injuries have always been a concern though and unfortunately seem to have slowed him down.

I never saw the hype with Mailloux in his draft year, and I still don’t really. He has some good offensive instincts and size, but that’s about all he has. To me he’s trade bait for an unsuspecting scouting/GM team.

Everyone did. But they were of course scared off by the off ice issues.

Top 15?

According to this article only one of the 10 scouts that TSN surveyed had him top 15, which by the sounds of things may have been our scout.

Mailloux’s name appears on the TSN final draft rankings list simply because even for the teams that have decided not to select him under any circumstances, the player was still ranked by those teams. Absent the legal issues, which of course is not the case, this is the range where he may have expected to have been chosen.

This is, of course, not a normal situation, but the process whereby teams rank and list a player they have no interest in actually drafting is not at all unusual. That is why Mailloux’s name still appears on the list. Of the 10 scouts surveyed by TSN, four had Mailloux in their first round, including one in the top 15. Five other scouts had him rated in the second round and one in the third round.

We don't know if they had him top 15 or they would have taken him there. They took him 31st.

Many GM's did. But they were of course scared off by the off ice issues.
No, according to Bob, just Montreal had him there, nobody else did.

Beat me to it.

Bob only knows 10 out of 32 teams and where they would have ranked him if he hadn't asked not to be drafted who knows. We know that several teams would have taken him with their 2nd pick. Now that may have been teams in the last half of the 2nd round.

Just because he got injured and it slowed him down doesn’t mean the player wasn’t worth that.
Didn't say it wasn't. Just saying you can't say it's scary that Maillloux being ranked higher is bad, when the current management has made similar bad judgement.

Dach is not a smart player. He gets lost defensively, can't win a faceoff and his line is consistently the worst line.

The scouting staff that thought Mailloux was a top 15 pick are the same staff that gets praise around here for the good picks they make.

That group is still here.

Mailloux is a fine prospect.

Your comment about everyone having him top 15 is inaccurate regardless (though you've edited it since). The most accurate info we have is most didn't. Heck, there's a chance most didn't even have him as a first rounder.

Alex Nylander is with the Leafs Jr now? I remember him being talked for our pick in 2016, we ended up with Sergachev. I remember thinking Nylander was suspect in the top 10 that year.

Dach is a smarter player than Mailloux and was very good to the point many had him as a 1B to Suzuki's 1A. Then, the injury happened. Up to then, there wasn't any question about the price paid. This is all available to read in his thread, look at the posts from January 2022 to his injury.

Mailloux is not a top 15 pick, never was and wouldn't have been under this management or for the vast majority of NHL clubs. I don't know why this is getting pushback or why Dach, a completely unrelated player who was traded (and not drafted) during a completely different (and weak) draft, is being brought into the equation.

Disappointed by Xhekaj tonight, he's not physical at all. Simoneau is our most physical player by far in this game.

About time Florian....
