Toronto Maple Leafs: Who Would Replace Kyle Dubas?

Seems there are dozens of posters in this forum, who think they are smarter. It should be easy to find a replacement, which probably won't be necessary anyway.
I haven’t seen that on here. Some of the Dubas fan boys are obv upset and some Dubas haters are gonna want anyone else but most of us are just discussing possible options and outcomes.

Gilmour and Haley

COME ON
That is clickbait at its finest.

The next GM for the leafs will not be a young inexperienced up and come'r. It will be a Poile/Armstrong/Yzerman type.
I still think Dubas has learned on the job...no sense throwing to the curb now.

I suppose if we're going down the path of discussing it, I wouldn't be going with anyone currently in the organization.

I thought about Futa but he only has AGM experience.

If they were afraid he would leave, why haven't they extended him? Truth is the guy is in over his head and it took management this long to see that he does not know how to build a team that can win in the playoffs. I mean I can win in the regular season gifted with the 3 amigos Lou left.
Lou didn't draft Nylander, but I get your point.

I’ll stay positive, we make it to the 2nd rd. And dubas gets a big raise, Hey if Dubas doesn’t get extended will he be the only GM in Leaf history who never missed the playoffs?

Not sure winning a round should save anyone’s job. ECF or bust
Issue with that is that for an Atlantic team you have to beat two of the top 5 teams in the league to get there. While I'd love it, the Leafs would have to beat the best regular season team and the best playoff team over the last 5 years to do that.

Just reinforces this division stuff is garbage... we have 16 teams per conference, give me #1-8 seeding... I'd love 1-16, but logistically it's a nightmare.

This season should be ECF or bust (I.e. top 4), but the seeding makes it that much more difficult given the disparity between divisions.

If Dubas fails and ultimately needs to be replaced, I dont think you're hiring someone even less experienced from the same philosophy camp (Hardy, Pridham etc).

Could happen but I'd say it's far more likely you'd hire either A) More experienced GM or B) Someone that see's the game a bit differently than the current management group.
Dubas could win and still walk. He is a pending Free Agent. The organization is only part of the equation.

so, i have read for a number of years that we made a mistake in hiring dubas as an inexperienced gm and he is learning on the job ....... now to replace him the names that come up are all folks with zero games as a gm in the nhl ..... will there ever be a discussion with some real ideas?
let's just try to enjoy the games and let the chips fall where they may
my opinion is that if dubas goes, shanabang has to go with him ... this is HIS team ... but i am hoping for a good playoffs to make all this conjecture moot

Interesting that with 34 and 88 up for renewal July 1st, the same day their NMC kicks in, they have chosen to keep their GM flying in the wind. No idea what their logic is. I mean this is the same guy that they would not allow Sakic to talk to and now they are risking the kid going to the highest bidder. Strange.

How would you say Dubas’s performance as GM stacks up against Don Sweeney and Julian Brisebois? Curious because those are the teams we have to beat to actually accomplish anything.

based on pts % 1-8 in the conference we'd still be playing Tampa as of today in the first rd

there's no easy path to the cup regardless of setup and we already pissed away the easiest path we were ever going to get when we lost to Mon in the Canadian division

Toronto Maple Leafs fans are not sure who the general manager will be next season.

Current Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas is in the final year of his contract and is a lame duck situation.

Kyle Dubas’ future with the Leafs may already be decided for all anyone knows, though some insist that it will come down to how well the team performs in the 2023 NHL playoffs.

Another first-round exit would likely end his tenure as Toronto’s GM, however, its going to depend on how the team performs overall.

Dubas has spent the past few seasons putting together a talented Toronto team, only to see it fail in the playoffs. This season, more than others, there is a lot at stake for Dubas and his team.

If this is indeed Dubas’ last season as the GM in Toronto, it may also be Shanahan’s.

Here are a few options the Leafs could explore, if necessary.

Toronto Maple Leafs Future GM Options

There will be no shortage of possibilities for Shanahan when selecting the next general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It is a pretty coveted job within the NHL. So, when the time comes to hire a new GM, who will he choose?

Brandon Pridham

Brandon Pridham is the current Assistant GM to Kyle Dubas and the wizard behind Toronto’s salary cap. His knowledge of Toronto’s salary cap future and the players makes him a great candidate. The big question will be whether or not he stays with the team or decides to follow Dubas to Dubas’ next landing spot. If he stays, he’s at the top of the list for Dubas’s replacement.

Ryan Hardy

Ryan Hardy is the current general manager of the Toronto Marlies and is an assistant GM to Kyle Dubas. Hardy has held the position of Marlies GM since June 25th, 2021. He has a good working knowledge of Toronto’s prospects and what this team needs moving forward.

Doug Gilmour

Former Toronto Maple Leafs captain Doug Gilmour is a fan favourite in Toronto. He was a very hard-working player and knows what it takes to win. From 2011 to 2017, Gilmour was the GM of the Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL. He acted as team president for Kingston from 2017 to 2019 before leaving the team to join the Toronto Maple Leafs as a community representative. There is no telling how well Gilmour would do as the GM in Toronto, but he would be starting with a talented roster.

Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser

Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser is currently an assistant GM with the Toronto Maple Leafs in charge of player development. She knows a thing or two about winning. As a member of Canada’s women’s hockey team, Wickenheiser won four Olympic gold medals and one Olympic silver medal.

She also helped Team Canada win seven gold medals at the World Championships, along with six silver medals. Her role in player development would be an asset if Shanahan decides it’s time for her to be promoted.
Steelers suck.

Hunter gets all the credit for Marner. No one else.
Except that's ridiculous. If we're saying that GMs get credit for picks, then GMs get credit for picks. Dubas was involved in that decision.
Either way, certainly wasn't Lou like was claimed.

If Dubas leaves this fan base will still have a big divide. the only way to get the fans on the same page is win! Let’s hope it happens this year eitherwise it will be another year of back and forth between fans.
