I’m actually going to dump my bitterness come opening night and try to regroup emotionally with this team. I’m a Leafs fan, it’s what we do. I’ll say this though, this regular season has a diminished extrapolation for me…. Just get in and we will see what’s really going here.
I’m trying but struggling with them so far .
:)

Hughes, OEL, Myers, Pettersson, Horvat, Miller, Boeser (Needs a new contract next year) @ around 45 million cap hit for a last place team or
Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Muzzin, Brodie, Rielly (Needs a contract next year) @ around 55 million cap hit for a first place team?

I can't believe Benning doesnt take more heat.

We should trade Mikheyev, Gabriel and a 2nd rounder for Demko. I think Benning does it. His team obviously needs more speed and toughness... right Jim?

Love it! I did that months ago. Like you said, I am a Leafs fan. HIt the reset button and lets get back at'er. I will say though, that last episode of the 'All or Nothing' series was pretty gut wrenching to watch. I totally agree with you though about the regular season... I mean, I will watch... every game no doubt... and still get pissed off no doubt... but it's all about the post season now.

I like what I have seen. The team will have the ability to bring more pace. Interesting for me, early in camp Bunting looked very good... but with all the regulars in the lineup tonight he looked very pedestrian. Excited to see what he can bring through the season. Case and Kampf have impressed me, Ritchie to.

Every year is another opportunity. Do the job and nobody will remember the years of soul crushing setback.

I really think Marner should run his own line. He looks more dangerous than always looking for JT or AM.
It won’t happen though but I think that’s something Keefe should try.

Living in Vancouver. Bennings get tons of heat, heck even Green gets it a lot worse than Keefe but you probably won’t hear too much until it is on nuclear level.
The truth is Sportsnet and TSN don’t really cover them at all esp now with no TSN radio in Vancouver. Can you imagine the daily coverage if AM and Marner would not sign an extension after their ELC till a week before Camp? It was crickets on TSN and Sportsnet with Petey and Hughes.

Exactly, even if the Leafs is consider just a bubble team in the beginning of the season, as long as they win the Cup, who cares where they rank in October.

It's not enough to "just get in". They have to show that they can play "playoff" style hockey during the season, not only to be successful in the playoffs but to make it in. I believe they did that tonight. They're feistier, tougher, stronger on the puck, very skilled, and showed a lot of motivation. If you're suggesting that's the way they played in "October 2020", then I suggest that you're mistaken. You're right that this has to continue into the season, but the team has made good additions in Ritchie, Bunting, Kase, and Kampf.

nah you'll see they'll tear it up. The issue was actually Hyman, not Marner always looking for Matthews. Hyman is a workhorse that gets loose pucks and battles hard on the boards but he doesn't have a shot. He scores from in-close. Tips, rebounds, short re-directs etc. He's not a threat when Marner-Matthews try to run a skill game.

So Marner has nothing. Hyman isn't a threat to shoot. Marner can't snipe from out far either. Opponents only need to worry about Matthews + collapse down low to take out Hyman. Habs played that line like teams play our powerplay when Marner is on the wall at Rielly at point. You can pretty much let them do whatever they want and focus on the other 3 guys only.

Ritchie has a nice wrister and has the skillset to score in all the ways Hyman does so Marner will get to dance more this season due to the different dynamics.
