Well, the Kings are at their best when it's "critical" time. The problem is, do they recognize or even consider it "critical" time, yet?

Did Sutter really phrase it like that?

Not in any of the post practice comments I could find.

This is the only thing close to that , from todays Inisder he speaks to the loss of TT and TP and what it means for Andy and Nolan

http://lakingsinsider.com/2015/01/12/january-12-morning-skate-notes/

-Darryl Sutter, on whether the personnel issues have created an opportunity for Andy Andreoff: “I’d say Andreoff and Nolan would both be in the very same boat. Guys who have played a handful of shifts once in a while and need to play a hell of a lot better than they have.” I’ll have more from Andreoff and Shore later today.

On whether Nick Shore’s call-up is good, even if “he doesn’t play”:
He’s going to play. He’s deserved – and I know it’s injury that’s brought him up here, but it’s the very same as if I look back with Toffoli and Pearson, and the same age, same type of first year, same type of second years going up and down. He’s going to play. There are guys who are here who are here not because they made the team, but because they were basically given a job.

Sutter not being kind to Andy today. He's really got to show us something tonight, he might not get many more opportunities.

That will only take place when we will be at least 6 points out of the playoff picture. But will it be "to little to late". One will have to live to see...

In the meantime, our woes are more with the D than on offense even though it does sting to lose #70 and 73...

Expect Bernier to show up tonite. Leafs have been bad of late, so what has become the remedy for teams who have been in a slump or playing bad? "Come on down and play your Los Angeles Kings".

(I really hope that Voynov is innocent -in the right way- because we need him)

So we'll get a look at Shore and Richards has an opportunity for more minutes and a slightly different role.

Hope the Leafs decide to unscratch Holzer so we can get a look at him, too. Big kid who hits a TON.

Sutter is just stating the obvious that has happened from the start of the year. DL manages the assets, DS coaches them, and what is put in front of him! DL didn't want to expose players to waivers. AA, McNabb, Nolan, etc. There really aren't tryouts. DS will manage minutes during the game, and they probably decide together who will scratch. I think DS is saying essentially that if it were all about tryouts,Shore probably would have been here in the first place, or at least looked at more often. But because it's a business, with waivers and cap space, etc., it's not always about hockey. I don't have a problem with any of this. As a GM, you have to think this way to protect the long term interest of the team. There are several short term impatient GMs in this league that jump way too soon. Injuries are a fact of this league, and now it's Shore turn to step in. Also, I expect him to play a top 6 role. He will be on PP, and will even see some PK. I don't expect his minutes to be limited too much, and will settle in as he gets more games in! I look for him to play C only! And to get him these minutes, I expect to see Carter back on wing! All this might not happen right away tonight, but I think DS won't wait long to tinker with it. Maybe a couple of games!

Damn, Sutter just pimp slapped some fools. You could probably hear that **** all the way in Alberta.

Some of us on here have pretty much been saying the same things all season concerning Andreoff (and Nolan), in that these guys have done nothing all season to prove that they belong in the lineup.

Hopefully he proves me wrong but my comparison of the Andreoff hype to that of Petr Kanko might sadly be closer to reality, until he proves otherwise.

Even with their limited ice time, they need to provide some type of emotional spark with their physical play, and neither player has done so.

Sutter saying he's "glad" Shore is here meaning he's just this one guy this season that actually "deserved" a chance to be in the lineup is saying a lot about some guys on this roster! I agree. Some just don't deserve to be in. Period.

As a Leaf fan, I think you have it backwards. First of all, Bernier has seemingly struggled against LA, sample size be damned. Secondly, we're the ultumate slump busters? Have any Ontario boys, ex-Leafs, players in a slump or close to a career milestone, especially have yet to score their first career goal? The Leafs will make those guys look like the second coming. Although this sad sack Leaf team has picked it up since Carlyle's, I don't know how long it will last.

Expecting a close game, though, just like our last few meetings have gone.

You must not have seen the past 3 kings games, where they've given up their monthly allotment of goals all in under a week. Bernier doesn't have to stand on his head, just needs to give up less than 4 goals, as it doesn't appear the Kings even start playing til they are down 3-0 these days...

Andy has been on the roster because his 550k cap hit makes him the perfect guy to sit on the bench. Shore has a 900k or so hit if I remember right.

Wish Sutter would stop running his mouth and figure out how to win a game in OT, or get his team to score a shootout goal. Wait Lewis choked again in the shootout and didn't get the puck on net? No ****ing ****.... Who's the idiot that came up with that idea... oh yeah.. never mind....

Not often Sutter "runs his mouth" as you call it.
I like what he said. Not dicking around. Straight to the point

I was pissed about Lewis and Richards in the shootout as well, but it's got to be a message to the other guys. When's the last time Kopi or Carter have scored in a shootout? Lewis doesn't account for all the other craptastic shootouts.

And I do believe the cap reason you are providing are exactly what Sutter is referencing as guys being given the job, not necessarily having earned it....

LOVE Sutter's quotes today. Designed to light a fire but they're also brutally honest. He definitely confirms what we were thinking about some guys being handed jobs vs. guys that deserve to be here, but you have to think this is a shot for guys like not just Andreoff, but those who have to step up like Richards. I expect some sandpaper tonight, especially with such a trashy 4th line.

1. These games shouldn't continually being going to OT/SO anyway, but he's definitely trying--how many times have we seen him rolling out 3 forwards? He's going for it as well as trying to prevent a shootout. It's not for lack of effort on his part, its player execution.

2. ALL THE PREVIOUS shooters were 2 for infinity going into that shootout; in hindsight it's easy to criticize the shooters but NO ONE has been getting it done all season long.

I'm glad Sutter was more verbal, essentially calling out a lot of bottom line guys.

Still, you're right about how bad that shootout decision was on Sutter's part. The stupid thing is, we've only had 2 guys hit net in shootouts this year - Carter and Gaborik. Carter was 1 for 5 in shootouts before last game, but still one of our best shots so ya, put him in the shootout. But Gabby has been even better at 1 for 3, which is the best on the team and about average for the league. And Gabby has been our most consistent scorer since he's been back as well. Why leave out your best shootout guy this season? It doesn't many any sense why Sutter didn't put him in there instead of Lewis or Richards.

Really, these next few games a lot of guys in our bottom 6 who wanted more minutes are going to have a chance to get them and this is likely a 'put up or don't be surprised if you have to pack your bags' moment for them.

I don't think he rolled that shootout group to send a message because if he was, why still put Carter, one of our best SO guys, in there?

He must've thought that group had a shot to win it. But it was a bad coaching decision because he left Gabby out and right now Gabby's the first guy he should be choosing for a shootout. Great coach but bad decision. So the players weren't the only ones who messed up that game.

I take back my comment about Fox Sports Go in the Jets GDT. For some reason, Kings games aren't streamed live. And I doubt Ducks games are, either. But Clipper games can be watched on the app.
